Associate Corporate Counsel, Payments Legal

We are looking for a talented attorney to support our rapidly growing and evolving payments businesses. This attorney will be responsible for counseling the Amazon Payments business teams on product and service launches, negotiating complex transactions with financial service partners, and advising on commercial, regulatory, and compliance related initiatives in the payments and financial services space.

Lawyers at Amazon are trusted members of the business. Developing innovative solutions to novel legal questions is part of our daily business. The role covers a broad spectrum of legal issues, including new program development in regulated areas, product counseling and providing day‑to‑day advice, strategic contract and partnership negotiations, and resolving issues that arise in commercial relationships. A successful candidate will have a strong regulatory and transactional background and be hard‑working, proactive, entrepreneurial and able to apply sound, pragmatic judgment in ambiguous situations. Prior experience in payments, credit/lending, or financial services is a plus.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Advise the business on regulatory and compliance matters
  • Provide product development advice
  • Structure, draft and negotiate commercial agreements related to domestic and international payment and credit/lending products
  • Provide ongoing legal counseling on a wide range of matters

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of legal experience
  • Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
  • Knowledge of the ethical considerations surrounding AI in the legal context, such as confidentiality, accuracy, and bias prevention
  • Experience in private practice or in house experience at a technology company or equivalent
  • Experience managing multiple projects and meeting aggressive deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in‑house work
  • Experience with financial services, payments or e‑commerce
  • Experience in transactional work, including drafting and negotiating commercial contracts or equivalent
  • Experience in working directly with government officials and regulatory bodies
