AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment to keep the cloud running. We work on the most challenging problems with complex supply chain variables and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
Responsibilities
- Lead design projects in operational data centers that remediate issues, upgrade existing infrastructure, or add new services.
- Serve as the go‑to engineering resource for these projects, providing lifecycle support from design through implementation.
- Own design for existing data center upgrades and design solutions that add capacity, improve availability, or increase sustainability.
- Prepare or review short‑circuit coordination studies and maintain software models to match as‑built site conditions.
- Perform design and equipment submittal reviews for data centers in your region.
- Interface with internal and external design engineering teams, server hardware teams, environmental health and safety teams, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability.
- Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
- Act as a technical subject‑matter expert for your discipline during new remediation projects.
- Support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 1+ year of design experience in mission‑critical facilities such as data centers, power generation, or oil & gas.
- Strong engineering judgment and ability to provide design recommendations despite uncertainty.
- Detail‑ and data‑oriented with familiarity of design and construction processes.
- Experience managing engineering projects and engineering consultants.
- Ability to build trust and relationships with stakeholders (Operations, Commissioning, Construction, Design).
- Experience managing design and as‑built drawings and documents.
- Proficiency in preparing and presenting progress reports to stakeholders.
- Willingness to work in the field and see things up close.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience designing, building, operating, or maintaining mission‑critical facilities, especially data centers.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
- Ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment/mass production.
- Basic understanding of both mechanical and electrical equipment/design related to data center topology.
- Coursework in commercial/industrial power systems and/or mechanical systems.
