Job Description

A Hostess, or Host, works in the food and beverage industry welcoming guests to an establishment. Their duties include greeting customers upon their arrival, ushering these patrons to designated tables, and introducing them to their Server. They also help provide an enjoyable dining experience by ensuring that customers have everything they need.

Qualifications & Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Fluent in English
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Solid organizational and people skills to ensure a positive dining experience from arrival to departure. Availability to work in shifts is required.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations
  • Experience in managing reservations
  • Demonstrable customer-service skills
  • Excellent communication skills (via phone and in-person)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to monitor the entire dining and bar area
  • Availability to work in shifts as needed

Education and Experience

  • 2 years previous work experience as a Hostess

Principal Accountabilities

  • Welcome guests to the venue
  • Provide accurate wait times and monitor waiting lists
  • Escort customers to assigned dining or bar areas
  • Provide menus and announce Waiter/Waitress’s name
  • Greet customers upon their departure
  • Coordinate with wait staff about available seating options
  • Maintain a clean reception area
  • Cater to guests who require extra attention
  • Answer incoming calls and address customers’ queries
