Software Engineer II - Digital Emerging Tech & Innovation (D-ETI Team) – San Antonio, TX or Austin, TX.

Join the D-ETI team at H-E-B to deliver modern, engaging, reliable, and scalable digital experiences for customers. You will contribute to system design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and performance, and provide end-to-end support.

Responsibilities

• Build full-stack solutions including intuitive web frontends, mobile apps, clean APIs, and robust backend systems.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand needs, gather feedback, and prototype ideas quickly.
• Contribute to overall system design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and application performance.
• Partner with teams across H-E-B Digital to integrate with existing systems and infrastructure.
• Grow technical skills and experience, starting to lead small initiatives independently.
• Navigate complex work that may span multiple systems and contribute to root cause analysis to remediate future issues.

• Work across various technologies and languages based on project needs.
• Prototype and validate ideas quickly, pivoting based on real-world usage.
• Deliver customer-facing products from inception to production.
• Ensure quality and maintainability in code and deliverables.

Qualifications

• A Computer Science degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience.
• 2+ years of full-stack development experience with languages such as C++, JavaScript, Ruby, Python, PHP, Go, or Java.
• Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, design patterns).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Experience building and shipping customer-facing products from scratch is a plus.
• Experience with Cloud Technologies such as AWS, GCP, or Azure is a plus.
• Rapid prototyping while maintaining appropriate quality standards is a plus.

About the Team

H-E-B’s Digital Emerging Technology and Innovation team is an in-house innovation lab that rapidly transforms ideas into working prototypes. We operate as an idea incubator, building and testing new concepts with real users and evaluating vendor solutions to provide technical recommendations.

Additional Requirements

• Travel by car or plane with overnight stays may be required.
• Ability to work extended hours and sit for extended periods.
• Work rotating and on-call schedules, as needed.
