Job Introduction

  • We’re looking for a Business Development Manager, to reinforce the team in our Italy office!

You will contribute directly to some of Europe’s most exciting space programmes, from Earth observation and climate monitoring to satellite navigation and space safety. Your work will play a vital role in ensuring mission success, enabling better decision-making on Earth and driving innovation in orbit. Whether you’re helping managing spacecraft operations, analysing mission data, or supporting software and systems development, your expertise will help move Europe’s space ambitions forward.

Main Responsibilities

  • As Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for driving strategic growth and sales initiatives within the Space sector.
  • Business Development & Sales Strategy
  • Execute the commercial strategy and sales plan in alignment with the European Business Development Director
  • Develop and manage a robust pipeline of new business opportunities to meet growth targets in order bookings and margins
  • Lead end-to-end business development activities across the bid lifecycle, including win theme development, pursuit strategy, pricing, teaming, and solution development
  • Customer Engagement & Capture Management
  • Build and maintain consultative relationships with key stakeholders and customers to position Serco at the forefront of upcoming opportunities
  • Understand customer needs and align them with Serco’s capabilities, identifying gaps and implementing tailored capture strategies
  • Promote Serco’s value proposition and capabilities through proactive engagement and representation
  • Collaboration & Governance
  • Coordinate with internal teams including bidding, legal, finance, and operations to ensure successful deal execution in compliance with corporate governance
  • Collaborate with Business Development Directors to support capture management and competitive pricing strategies
  • Analyse unsuccessful bids and integrate lessons learned into future proposition development
  • Market Representation & Networking
  • Represent Serco in relevant professional associations and industry events
  • Coordinate Serco’s presence at sales events and fairs in collaboration with the European marketing team
  • Develop and maintain a network of senior relationships within the customer and industry community to identify and pursue new opportunities

Your skills

  • Fluent in English
  • Open minded and able to interact with confidence with all stakeholders
  • Motivated by challenge and looking for business success
  • Enjoys teamworking and is used to cooperate with bidding, legal, finance and operational teams in an international environment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Exercises good judgement with decision-making skills
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to assimilate information quickly, cut through to determine resolution, communicate key messages simply and effectively to the business
  • Demonstrated understanding in building opportunities
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in same role
  • Preferred but not required
  • Understanding of EO market development
  • Experience in Earth Observation projects in the downstream domain
