A Day in the Life

The Clinical Evaluation Medical Writer at Medtronic plays a pivotal role in the Clinical Job Family, specializing in the critical review and synthesis of scientific literature. This position is designed for professionals who thrive on analyzing clinical evidence, supporting regulatory submissions, and contributing to the development of medical devices. As part of the Specialist Career Stream, the role demands advanced education, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Review and summarize scientific literature.
• Report instances of complaints/adverse events from literature to GCH.
• Create responses for audit/submission queries.
• Maintain a database of peer-reviewed literature.
• Appraise, analyze, summarize, and discuss clinical evidence from all available sources.
• Conduct comprehensive literature searches and critically evaluate clinical evidence.
• Develop state-of-the-art knowledge on product family for its intended purpose.
• Create and maintain plans and reports for regulatory authorities.
• Review/approve other documentation for device development.
• Knowledge of regulatory agencies’ guidelines on clinical evaluation requirements.

• Established and productive individual contributor who works independently with general supervision on larger, moderately complex projects.
• Sets objectives for own job area to meet project objectives and contributes to milestone completion. May have some involvement in cross-functional assignments.
• Handles general problems that may require an understanding of broader issues or other job areas. Makes adjustments or recommends enhancements in systems and processes to improve effectiveness.
• Communicates primarily and frequently with internal contacts. External interactions are less complex, primarily sharing information and status to inform decision-making.
• May provide guidance and assistance to entry-level professionals or employees in the Support Career Stream.
