Overview

Applied Scientist II, Prime Video - Personalization and Discovery Science. Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering customers a vast collection of premium programming in one app across thousands of devices. Prime members can customize their viewing experience and find content across movies, series, documentaries, live sports, and more. All customers can rent or buy titles via the Prime Video Store, with additional content for free with ads. Prime Video’s technology teams are building best-in-class digital video experiences and you will have end-to-end ownership of product, user experience, design, and technology required to deliver state-of-the-art experiences.

As a Prime Video technologist, you’ll work on fast-paced, challenging, and varied projects, with opportunities to experiment, take risks, and collaborate with remarkable people. We value diverse perspectives and skills to make Prime Video even better for our customers.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop ML models for various recommendation and search systems using deep learning, online learning, and optimization methods
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and product managers to expand product insights with data, create experiments, and plan high-impact roadmaps
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements and the latest modeling techniques in the field
  • Publish research findings in top conferences and journals

A day in the life

We use advanced approaches such as foundation models to connect information about videos and customers from diverse sources, acquiring and processing large data sets. This enables effective recommendations, even with limited behavioral signals (addressing cold-start problems), and helps surface niche interests. You will be a research leader and hands-on ML practitioner, guiding teams of engineers, scientists, and senior leaders in Prime Video, with opportunities to publish internally and externally.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of building models for business applications
  • PhD, or Master’s degree with 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or related language
  • Experience in algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, or high-performance computing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Unix/Linux
  • Experience in professional software development

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across US geographic markets. The base pay ranges from $136,000/year to $223,400/year, depending on location, knowledge, skills, and experience.
