Lead UX / UI Designer

About us

At BAK Economics, we build analytical tools and digital platforms that make economic data accessible and actionable. Our next step is the BAK Data Hub, an online portal enabling users to quickly find, explore, and download economic data. The first building block is the Data Catalogue (DC) – a powerful search and discovery interface that helps users (internal and external) find relevant datasets and metadata within seconds.

Your role

We are looking for a Lead UI / UX Designer to shape the design of our digital tools (such as the Data Catalogue and future modules of the BAK Data Hub) as well as our corporate design identity. You will be responsible for setting the visual and user-experience standards across our products and for establishing a consistent design language for the company.

You will take the lead in turning complex requirements into intuitive, professional, and user-friendly products that meet the needs of economists, developers, clients, and external stakeholders.

What you will do

• Design wireframes, mockups, and prototypes for our tools.
• Translate functional requirements into seamless user journeys.
• Create and maintain clean, consistent, and scalable design systems.
• Define and manage the corporate design standards of BAK (logos, branding, guidelines).
• Collaborate closely with project managers, economists, and developers (React / Django / Python).
• Test and refine user flows and interaction models.
• Contribute to documentation, FAQs, and onboarding materials to support adoption.

What you bring

• Proven experience as a UI / UX Designer, ideally with SaaS or data-heavy products.
• Strong skills in Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch or similar design tools.
• Experience with search & catalogue interfaces or other information-rich portals.
• Ability to design for multi-lingual, role-based platforms.
• A strong sense for usability, clarity, visualization, and branding.
• Good communication skills; ability to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bonus: familiarity with React / Django ecosystems, German language.
