Data Governance Engineer

You will be responsible for scaling, automation, and optimizing HBX data governance policies and processes across the entire data lifecycle.

This role is a key contributor to delivering and executing the Data Governance Roadmap, with active involvement in creating the company's data quality foundations through developing and implementing technical solutions such as:

• Data Governance & Management policies as code
• Automatic Data Observability and Quality metrics implementation
• Effective Metadata Management & Data Catalogue
• Automation of Data Policies and Procedures
• Automation of Data Security processes and controls

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Head of Data Governance Office, this role will:

• Design and implement automatic Data Governance policies and procedures, detect bad practices, and prevent data quality issues across the data stack and lifecycle
• Design and implement automatic Data Management policies and controls (policy as code) to prevent data misuse
• Develop automatic Data Quality validation, metrics, and controls
• Create automatic Data Observability alerts and workflows
• Coordinate with Data Governance Enterprise Architect to design the optimal data architecture & infrastructure for governed data extraction, transformation, and loading using SQL, Python, and AWS technologies
• Build or deploy Data Governance tools to support Data Analysts and Data Scientists in product development

Skills:

Education:

• Master's Degree in BI & Data Analytics, Big Data

Experience:

• Advanced Python knowledge and experience with databases for enterprise applications and ML
• Advanced SQL skills and familiarity with relational databases
• Data Security management experience (encryption, masking, GDPR, PCI, secrets, SSO, MFA)
• Experience in root cause analysis and process improvement
• Automation and administration of data systems
• Strong analytical skills with structured and unstructured data

Technical Skills:

• Experience with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse platforms
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, RestAPI
• Experience with ETL tools like Airflow, Snowpipe
• Knowledge of data transformation tools like dbt
• Familiarity with Data Management & Governance platforms (e.g., Collibra, Informatica)
• Experience with visualization tools like Tableau
• Proficiency with Git repositories and documentation tools like Atlassian Confluence

Day-to-day activities:

• Govern and manage the HBX Data Platform Stack regarding security, user management, roles, permissions, and policies
• Design and implement automated data governance policies and controls
• Develop detective controls and alerts for data governance
• Ensure connectivity and interoperability of data platform components via API
• Implement data security policies ensuring compliance with regulations like GDPR
• Support data lifecycle management in line with data retention policies
