The role of a Social Media Video Content Creator at Canonical

We're seeking an energetic and creative video content creator to join our social media team and develop our video program to enhance Canonical's visibility.

Our social media channels connect the creators of our products with users worldwide. With audiences in the millions, our online communities facilitate communication, engagement, feedback, and involvement in topics like #opensource, K8s, launch previews, and more, engaging developers, tech enthusiasts, and security engineers across the globe.

In this role, you will shape and grow our video initiatives, building a career with a community-focused brand impacting the modern technology landscape. Success will be measured by audience growth, engagement metrics, and collaboration skills.

The ideal candidate is passionate about technology and marketing, eager to learn, improve, and experiment, using automation to streamline tasks. You should be driven, organized, and detail-oriented.

Location : This position is based in the EMEA region, within the communications team, reporting to the director of communications.

What your day will look like

• Create and develop video storylines from concept to delivery.
• Build an engaged community and strengthen our brand with compelling video content.
• Generate new video ideas for marketing and communication, collaborating with team members.
• Continuously improve content quality, balancing creativity and performance metrics.
• Research and implement tools and solutions to scale our video program, including PoCs.
• Create engaging reels and videos for social media that are on-brand.
• Edit videos to suit social media formats, capturing our brand's personality.
• Apply social media and SEO best practices to video content.
• Manage video lifecycle effectively.

What we are looking for in you

• A strong portfolio showcasing video editing and social media skills.
• Proficiency with video editing software.
• Understanding of social media and communication best practices.
• Experience with at least four social platforms such as LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram.
• Knowledge of web analytics tools like Google Analytics is a plus.
• Strong branding sense and conceptual skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines without compromising quality.
• Experience with project management tools like Jira is advantageous.
• Willingness to travel up to four times annually for internal events.
