This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi-cultural environment.

This is a trainee position in the Finance Directorate (FI) - Strategy, Policies & Business Support Department (SPBS) - Operational Support & Monitoring Division (SDM) and Systems & Data Management Division (OSM). Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March 2026) The programme may be extended up to 6 months if required by the University. The position is open only to nationals of EU Member States and citizens of candidate countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine). Candidates whose Erasmus+ programme overlaps with the duration of the traineeship will not be considered. You are requested to limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications; we will only consider and retain the first three applications submitted.

Objective of the traineeship

The FI/SPBS department plays a key role in supporting both the operational and strategic evolution of the Bank’s financial systems. Its core responsibilities include providing functional support to operational teams, analysing and coordinating business cases for new products and functionalities, and documenting transactional processes to ensure clarity and consistency across platforms. In response to the growing volume and complexity of these activities, the department is seeking a motivated trainee to contribute to a variety of impactful tasks that offer strong learning and development opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior colleagues in business analysis for new product implementation, system enhancements, and process optimisation across all SPBS divisions.
  • Explore and apply emerging technologies (including AI, blockchain, and automation) to foster innovation, strengthen support team operations, and enhance future system capabilities.
  • Support the configuration and maintenance of Treasury and Borrowing instruments in financial systems.
  • Contribute to the alignment of Business & Technical Support (BTS) and Loan Support (LS) activities, including ticket management, statistical reporting, and the development of a unified activity report.
  • Participate in the documentation and testing of financial system developments, including the preparation of test scenarios.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of the reporting landscape, including the use of Power BI for advanced analytics and dashboarding.
  • Participate in strategic projects such as the BCBS239 project pilot, aimed at improving risk data aggregation and reporting standards across the department.

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or University education in one of the following fields: business administration, IT, finance, mathematics or economics.
  • Good understanding of Treasury, Borrowings and Lending products and processes.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence, copilot prompts, automation, and robotic technologies would be considered an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Jira and Power BI would be considered an advantage.
  • Excellent skills in Word, PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to prepare statistical reports and visualise data through graphs and charts.
  • Working level in English.
