HHLA PLT Italy is a multipurpose maritime terminal started in 2021, located in the middle of the fast‑growing North Adriatic market. The Expansion Project Team, coordinated by Logistica Giuliana, is planning and executing a phased project to integrate the current facility into a fully automated, state‑of‑the‑art container terminal, leveraging the most advanced technologies and expertise.
The Automation & IT Expert owns a part of the total automation solution from conceptualization to implementation. They review operational flows and follow the Automation & IT requirements in close coordination with the Operations Implementation Team, the Safety team, and the Asset team. They support documenting the solutions from a conceptual level down to the detailed technical solution that can be implemented, collaborating closely with external equipment suppliers and internal teams.
What you can expect
- Derive technical solutions from the automation concept that will support business and operations.
- Be a part of the solution of the automation & IT requirements for all operational flows.
- Provide project support for automation topics or automated areas.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
- Apply best practices in automation, IT, and safety.
- Forecast problem areas and provide solutions.
- Share requirements with the Asset team.
- Interface with the existing HHLA PLT Italy IT and automation systems.
- Comply with all safety and security rules and regulations and lead by example.
- Support the department and business unit where required.
- Follow the corporate authority matrix, contract policies, and compliance guidelines.
- Actively report improvement opportunities to direct report.
What you bring to the table
We’re looking for an accurate and process‑mindful individual who can translate an automation concept into implemented solutions. The person would have a high sense of responsibility as the role is vital to ensuring we meet operational goals in line with OPEX & CAPEX targets.
- Good English (Italian is a plus).
- Experience (5+ years) in automation/IT (port experience highly valued but not mandatory).
- Experience (5+ years) in building processes and delivering automation projects.
- Thorough understanding of safety in automated environments (experience with Italian legal environment & EU machinery directive highly valued).
- Strong problem‑solving skills – both technical solutions and collaboration.
- Ability to work in an agile environment.
- Self‑starter with the ability to translate high‑level concepts into technical solutions.
- Process‑driven and logical mentality.
- Degree in Engineering, IT, Automation or related field.
The ideal candidate would have a valid EU working permit and be willing to relocate to Trieste on short notice.
