About the role
You will be embedded in the Operations department and work side‑by‑side with the team to streamline and automate back‑office processes.
This is not a traditional engineering role; the focus is on process automation, back‑office tooling and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with Operations teams to analyse workflows, pain points and manual processes.
- Automate repetitive tasks and checks using SQL, scripting, or integrations.
- Enhance and maintain the back‑office system, building new features to support operational needs.
- Develop monitoring and alerting systems to enable proactive operational management.
- Create dashboards (e.g. Tableau, Metabase) to give clear visibility of key operational metrics.
- Investigate operational bugs and issues, identify root causes and deliver fixes or automation to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with technology teams when dependencies arise, ensuring solutions align with business priorities.
- Propose and drive a longer‑term automation strategy, including AI/ML opportunities to further improve efficiency.
Requirements
Essential
- Strong SQL skills (data extraction, transformation and automation).
- Experience with Scala.
- Experience developing back‑office or internal tools (full‑stack capability ideal).
- Proven ability to identify and deliver quick wins while building toward a long‑term strategy.
- Experience building lightweight dashboards or visibility tools (e.g. Tableau, Metabase, or similar).
- Familiarity with automation frameworks or scripting (Python, Node.js, etc.).
- Problem‑solving mindset, able to investigate root causes of operational issues.
- Ability to work directly with non‑technical stakeholders and translate operational needs into technical solutions.
- Experience in fintech, financial services or other regulated industries.
Desirable
- Knowledge of AI/ML applications for automation and data‑driven decision‑making.
- Understanding of alerting/monitoring systems.
