Canonical seeks a Junior Developer with proven experience in Python and/or Go. As part of the Observability team, you will develop a cloud-native monitoring stack that utilizes open-source monitoring tools. The stack is designed to be resilient, scalable, and offers deep insights with a polished user experience for end-users and smooth operations for administrators.

This role is ideal for a software engineer passionate about open source software, Linux, Kubernetes, and Observability. Join Canonical, a growing international software company behind Ubuntu, and build a rewarding career working with top talent.

The monitoring stack will oversee applications across various environments, including Kubernetes, OpenStack, bare-metal, virtual machines, and containers. It will monitor applications and infrastructure regardless of whether they are managed by Juju, integrating multiple data sources to provide contextual telemetry and insights.

This role is remote within the EMEA and Americas regions.

What your day will look like

  1. Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team
  2. Write, test, and document high-quality code to develop new features
  3. Debug issues and engage with a vibrant community
  4. Review code from other engineers
  5. Represent Canonical at conferences and events
  6. Work remotely with 2 to 4 weeks of global travel for internal and external events

What we are looking for in you

  1. A passion for technology and working with talented people
  2. Strong soft skills: passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, self-motivated
  3. Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or related field
  4. Proficient in Python, preferably with open source contributions
  5. Working knowledge of Go
  6. Interest or experience with Ubuntu Linux, container images, Debian packaging, snap, or distributed systems
