What You Will Focus on

We support the European Space Agency with highly qualified services at the European Operations Control Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt. For future service positions within the Flight Dynamics Division, the Navigation Support Office, and the Space Debris Office, we are seeking specialists to join our international service team. Please check our website for currently open positions. If none are available, your application will be added to our talent pool.

What You Bring

  • University degree in engineering, astronomy, mathematics, or physics.
  • Proficiency in classical and orbit mechanics, including orbit determination and related coordinate systems.
  • Ability to design, implement, validate, and operate software on Linux platforms.
  • Knowledge of software lifecycle and documentation.
  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Strong operational responsibility and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity with the ESOC environment.
  • Experience with MATLAB/SIMULINK, Mathematica, and shell scripting.
  • Knowledge of network services, protocols, and Linux system administration.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently across multiple activities.

Flight Dynamics Skills

  • Expertise in linear algebra, especially for geometric problem solving in 3D space.
  • Skills in numerical methods, differential equations, function approximation, interpolation, optimization, and linear algebra.
  • Proficiency in kinematics and dynamics of point masses and rigid bodies, including non-inertial frames and conservation laws.
  • Ability to develop solutions in collaboration with customers and specialists.
  • Experience in C++ and Scientific Python, with knowledge of scripting languages and Fortran.
  • Aspiration to take operational responsibility within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to coordinate with other service providers.

Navigation Skills

  • Deep familiarity with GNSS applications, data types, processing, and algorithms.
  • Knowledge of GNSS-related coordinate systems.
  • Experience with real-time processing of Galileo products.
  • Experience with EGNOS V2/V3 configurations.
  • Experience in Scientific Python development, scripting, and Fortran.

Space Debris Skills

  • Profound expertise in space debris observation, modeling, mitigation, and risk assessment.
  • Understanding of space surveillance techniques.
  • Knowledge of re-entry aerothermodynamics.
  • Experience with database systems, especially SQL.
  • Development experience in C++ and Scientific Python, with scripting and Fortran knowledge.
  • Understanding of ESA missions, ESTEC CDF, IADC, ESA Space Safety Program, and ESOC teams.

Knowledge of current and planned ESA missions is assumed.
