2 x Research Assoc. (PhD student) Civil Protection, Disaster Relief and Property Security (25037)

In the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Safety Engineering at the University of Wuppertal, in the Department of Civil Protection, Disaster Relief and Property Security, two positions as Research assistant (doctoral candidate) are available at the earliest possible date, for a limited period of up to 3 years, with 100% of the collectively agreed working hours. (Part-time is possible, please indicate in your application whether you would also or only be interested in part-time employment).

Position: E 13 TV-L

Professional and personal recruitment requirements:

  • Very good / above-average Master's degree related to civil protection or civil security research (e.g. security engineering; computer science or sociology Master's degree with a corresponding thematic focus)
  • Familiarity with civil protection topics and the ability to work scientifically
  • Sound methodological knowledge depending on the Master's degree (e.g. qualitative and quantitative social research, engineering methods, etc.)
  • Interest in inter- and transdisciplinary research on civil protection topics, in particular on topics such as:
    • Interorganizational cooperation and staff work
    • Climate change and civil protection
    • Resilience and protection of critical infrastructures
    • Urban resilience, community resilience and population behavior in crises and disasters
    • Decision support systems and the use of information and communication technologies for crisis management
    • Risk and crisis communication
  • Commitment, initiative, open-mindedness and ability to work in a team
  • Very good written and oral communication skills in German and English
  • Initial topic-related research, publication and teaching experience is desirable

Tasks and requirements:

  • Participation in research projects of the department and support in applying for third-party funding projects
  • Support in the preparation, implementation and updating of courses as well as supervision of student research projects and theses (max. 3 LVS)
  • Development, publication and presentation of research results in German and English
  • Independent research as part of a dissertation in the field of crisis and disaster research
  • Contributing to the general tasks of the department

These are two qualification positions within the meaning of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG), which serve to promote a doctoral procedure. The positions are to be filled for the duration of the doctoral procedure, but initially for up to 3 years. An extension to complete the doctorate may be possible within the time limits of the WissZeitVG.
