Are you enthusiastic about green energy technologies and how to bring it to the people? Then this could be the right place for you!

Our research project DEFINE is dedicated to developing fault-tolerant systems for a secure and sustainable energy supply. The interdisciplinary team, comprising seven university institutes, works on secure IT systems, control structures, power electronic hardware, and building structures. Components and systems such as High-Power Modular Multilevel Converters (MMC) and DC/DC Converters are investigated, developed, and tested in the Laboratory of High Power Electronic Systems for a digitally controllable, urban medium-voltage DC grid. A holistic, system-to-component level optimization approach is pursued.

Our university, Universität der Bundeswehr München, is well-established in the German and international research community, offering excellent facilities for high-quality teaching and research.

  • Investigation of novel power-converter systems and components through analysis, simulation, and experiments (focusing either on device/component level or converter/system level and control)
  • Development of solutions for future medium-voltage DC networks and other high-power applications
  • Contribution to the restructuring and expansion of the high-power semiconductors and multilevel converters laboratory (up to medium-voltage range)
  • Presentation and discussion of research results among project partners and at international conferences
  • Participation in lectures and supervision of bachelor and master students

Your profile:

  • A Ph.D. or excellent master’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Very good knowledge of power electronics and its applications
  • Practical laboratory experience with high voltage/power and measurements on power semiconductors is desirable but not mandatory
  • Knowledge of FPGA and microcontroller programming is desirable but not mandatory
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Highly committed, a good team player, with strong critical thinking skills
  • Responsible, careful, and structured in laboratory work

We offer cutting-edge research opportunities, a motivated interdisciplinary team working closely with industry, a full-time position (100% TVöD Bund E13 or E14, depending on qualification), and a welcoming work environment with many benefits.

If you are enthusiastic, committed, and perform at the highest level, we invite you to submit your application to thomas.brueckner@unibw.de today. Your application should be in PDF format and include a personal letter of intent, resume, references, university transcripts, and certificates. A letter of recommendation is highly appreciated.

The Universität der Bundeswehr München aims to increase the proportion of female scientists and employees; applications from women are especially welcome. Persons with disabilities will be given special consideration if equally qualified. Employment can also be part-time if desired.
