At the Bavarian State Office for the Environment, the Augsburg office has a vacancy for the department

6 "Hydraulic Engineering, Flood Protection, Water Protection" in Department 65 "Protection and

Management of Surface Waters" from 01.07.2025. The position is limited until 30.04.2027 and is suitable for a Computer scientist or research assistant with relevant additional qualifications or professional experience in information technology.

This role focuses on specialist applications in water management. Unit 65 "Protection and management of surface waters" handles strategic tasks related to monitoring wastewater facilities within the Bavarian Water Management Administration. This involves further developing and operating a data processing system for data management from municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants, specifically the application "Datenverbund Abwasser Bayern (DABay)".

We seek an employee with experience in database operation and web-based IT systems to operate and further develop our specialized application. You will support new program enhancements and play a key role in quality assurance and data evaluation.

Your tasks

  1. Technical support of the Bavarian Wastewater Data Network (DABay), including managing structure, master data, history, and lists, as well as supporting interfaces (e.g., laboratory information systems).
  2. Perform database evaluations using SQL.
  3. Support and expand the GISterm++ evaluation program and DABay query tools.
  4. Ensure data quality through cleansing and maintenance, adapting to new analysis methods and cost allocations.
  5. Support the DABay team in technical issues.
  6. Contribute to the technical development of DABay.

Our requirements

  • University degree (diploma or master's) in computer science, environmental science, or a comparable field.
  • Fluent in German (spoken and written).
  • Ability to clearly present complex issues.
  • Experience with databases.
  • Experience with complex IT applications is advantageous.
  • Practical SQL knowledge is desirable.
  • Teamwork, commitment, perseverance, openness to new tasks, and constructive collaboration with water management authorities, private experts, companies, and associations are essential.
  • Structured and conceptual working approach.
