The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within Huawei’s Nuremberg Research Center is responsible for advanced digital power technology research, architecture evolution design, and strategic technology planning. It plays a key role in designing and developing power converters and control systems for applications like PV solar & battery energy storage, data centers, electric vehicles, and embedded power supplies.

Join us as a

Research Assistant for Consumer Battery Simulation - Leased Labor 6-18 months (m/f/d)

Responsibilities:

  • Simulate and analyze battery cell behavior, including charge/discharge cycles, temperature effects, and degradation. Develop and implement cell balancing algorithms to optimize battery pack performance.
  • Utilize simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, COMSOL, and Python for battery system analysis. Design and conduct fault injection simulations to study impacts like cell imbalance, overcharging, short circuits, and thermal runaway.
  • Analyze experimental and field data to calibrate and validate simulation models. Collaborate closely with the Watt Lab headquarters research team and product teams, providing regular reports and presenting research findings.

Requirements:

  • Master’s or PhD degree in energy storage, material science, mechanical engineering, physics, chemistry, vehicle engineering, control science and engineering, electrochemistry, or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of lithium-ion battery chemistry, cell balancing techniques, fault mechanisms, and proficiency in battery system modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, Python, COMSOL).
  • Understanding of BMS algorithms, including SOC, SOH, and thermal management.
  • Experience with fault simulation and detection techniques in battery systems, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent in English; German or Chinese skills are a plus. Good communication skills and adaptability to multicultural environments.
