Job summary

Mekdam Technical Services seeks an experienced Hydrographic Studies Lead to oversee teams, manage survey operations, and ensure adherence to IHO/IMO standards for offshore/oil & gas projects.

The role requires 10–15 years in hydrographic studies with strong leadership and GIS/data-processing software skills; Middle East project experience is a plus. Strong HSE focus and stakeholder coordination are essential.

Qualifications

• Certification in Hydrographic studies with Category A IHO certification.
• 10-15 years' relevant hydrographic studies experience (preferably in Oil & Gas, marine/infrastructure, dredging).
• Minimum 5 years in a supervisory or lead role or managing contractor/sub-contractor/vendor personnel.
• Proven leadership of hydrographic studies teams and survey operations.
• Strong knowledge of hydrographic principles including bathymetric surveying, GPS/DGPS, and seabed mapping.
• Experience with survey data acquisition/processing software (PDS 2000, HYPACK, CARIS, AutoCAD, GIS).
• Familiarity with international standards (IHO, IMO) and vessel/equipment maintenance.
• Solid understanding of HSE regulations for marine/offshore environments.
• Ability to manage contractors, vendors and stakeholders effectively.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Middle East project experience is advantageous.

Qualifications*

Certification course in Hydrographic studies from Hydrographic institute holding Category A Certification by International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO)

Knowledge and/or Experience*

• 10-15 years' relevant experience in Hydrographic studies, preferably within Oil & Gas Industry, or marine/ infrastructure works, or dredging projects. Minimum 5-year experience in a supervisory or acting role or managing of contractor/sub-contractors/service/vendor personnel.
• Proven experience in leading and managing hydrographic studies teams, including survey operations.
• Strong knowledge of hydrographic principles, including bathymetric surveying, positioning systems (GPS/DGPS), geophysical surveys, and seabed mapping.
• Proficiency in survey data acquisition and processing software (e.g., PDS 2000, HYPACK, CARIS, AutoCAD, GIS applications).
• Sound understanding of international standards and guidelines (e.g., IHO standards, IMO regulations).
• Familiarity with survey vessels, equipment calibration, and maintenance requirements.
• Strong understanding of HSE regulations and safe working practices in marine and offshore environments.
• Demonstrated ability to manage contractors, vendors, and stakeholders effectively.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Experience in Middle East projects is an advantage.
