Role Context

The Warehouse Assistant supports the movement of merchandise through the distribution center from inbound receipt through storage, picking, packing, and outbound dispatch. The position requires accurate product handling, correct barcode scanning, careful stock placement, and close coordination with senior warehouse personnel. By maintaining accurate inventory movement and following established warehouse procedures, the role helps reduce stock discrepancies, prevent product damage, and ensure stores or customers receive the correct goods within required delivery schedules.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with receiving inbound shipments and verify goods according to established warehouse procedures.
• Unpack incoming merchandise carefully and organize products for inspection, scanning, and storage.
• Support stock movement between receiving, storage, picking, packing, and dispatch areas.
• Scan merchandise using barcode equipment to maintain accurate electronic inventory records.
• Place products on assigned shelves, racks, or storage locations according to barcode and category requirements.
• Perform loading and unloading activities while following safe manual handling practices.
• Pack merchandise according to brand, order, and dispatch instructions.
• Prepare goods for outbound distribution while ensuring correct quantities and product identification.
• Coordinate with senior distribution center personnel to support timely order fulfillment.
• Assist with picking and movement of stock required for outgoing orders.
• Follow approved labeling procedures to ensure merchandise remains traceable throughout warehouse operations.
• Maintain accurate documentation supporting receipts, stock movements, and dispatch activities.
• Report damaged, missing, incorrectly labeled, or unidentified merchandise to the responsible supervisor.
• Follow instructions for segregation, correction, return, or further investigation of problem stock.
• Conduct stock checks when required and assist with inventory reconciliation activities.
• Help maintain accurate inventory levels by recording movements correctly and avoiding unauthorized stock transfers.
• Keep assigned warehouse areas clean, organized, and free from unnecessary obstructions.
• Follow warehouse safety procedures when handling goods, equipment, shelving, and packed merchandise.
• Handle products carefully to minimize breakage, damage, contamination, or loss.
• Support warehouse teams during high-volume receiving and dispatch periods.

Ideal Profile

The preferred candidate will have 1-2 years of experience in a warehouse, distribution center, logistics facility, stockroom, or similar operational environment. Basic knowledge of receiving, shelving, stock movement, picking, packing, dispatch, and inventory handling is expected. Candidates should be comfortable using barcode scanners and following structured product labeling and storage procedures. Experience conducting stock checks and supporting inventory accuracy will be particularly useful.
