Role Context

The Waiter Assistant supports smooth restaurant service by preparing the dining area, maintaining clean service equipment, transporting food, clearing tables, and assisting senior waiting staff during guest service. The role helps maintain an efficient connection between the kitchen and dining room while ensuring tables, utensils, glassware, and service areas remain clean and ready throughout each shift. Consistent attention to hygiene and prompt support enables the restaurant team to deliver faster, more organized service to guests.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with restaurant cleaning and dining room preparation before service begins.


• Clean and prepare service utensils, cutlery, glassware, and related equipment before each service period.


• Support the Captain Waiter with restaurant setup and preparation of tables.


• Assist with mise en place activities before guests arrive.


• Maintain a clean, professional appearance and follow required personal hygiene standards throughout the shift.


• Transport prepared food safely and promptly from the kitchen to the dining area.


• Assist the Captain Waiter with placing food plates correctly on guest tables.


• Refill guest water glasses during service when required.


• Change ashtrays where applicable and ensure tables remain clean and orderly.


• Clear plates, glasses, cutlery, and other items once guests have completed their meals.


• Clean and reset tables efficiently for incoming guests.


• Transport used plates, glasses, and utensils to the designated dishwashing area.


• Keep service stations organized and stocked with necessary items during restaurant operations.


• Respond quickly to instructions from the Captain Waiter and other senior restaurant team members.


• Support the service team during busy periods to maintain efficient table turnover and guest satisfaction.


• Follow restaurant hygiene, food handling, and cleanliness procedures at all times.


• Handle plates, glassware, and service equipment carefully to minimize damage and breakage.


• Assist with general dining room duties required to maintain a clean and welcoming environment.

Ideal Profile

The preferred candidate will have previous experience in a restaurant, cafe, hotel, catering operation, or similar food service environment, although candidates with the right attitude and service orientation may also be considered. The role requires a strong understanding of cleanliness, personal hygiene, dining room organization, and basic restaurant service practices. Candidates should be comfortable working under the direction of a Captain Waiter, following instructions accurately, and supporting several service activities during busy periods. Good physical stamina is important because the position involves standing, walking, carrying trays, transporting dishes, and moving regularly between the kitchen and dining area.
