Job summary

Oryx University, in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, invites applications for a full-time Research Assistant in Geotechnical Engineering. The role focuses on laboratory testing, data analysis, and numerical modelling within a competitive QRDI-supported project.

You will perform triaxial tests, direct shear, and PLAXIS 2D simulations, document findings, and contribute to research outputs while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team in Doha, Qatar.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering is required.
• Hands-on experience with triaxial and direct shear testing.
• Experience in laboratory data analysis and interpretation.
• Working knowledge of PLAXIS 2D.
• Strong technical writing and reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Experience in experimental research laboratories.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform advanced geotechnical laboratory testing.
• Analyse experimental results and provide technical commentary.
• Identify data issues and implement corrective actions.
• Contribute to procedure modification and optimisation.
• Perform numerical modelling and analysis using PLAXIS 2D.
• Prepare technical and research reports with data interpretation.
• Support literature reviews and contribute to project outputs.
• Work within a multidisciplinary research team with independence.

The role is suited to a highly motivated candidate withstrong experimental, analytical, and numerical modelling capabilities, who canactively contribute to advancedgeotechnical research activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently perform advanced geotechnicallaboratory testing
• Ensure laboratory testing is conducted inaccordance with relevant standards and best practices.
• Analyse experimental results, interpret soilbehaviour, and provide technical commentary and recommendations.
• Identify testing or data-related issues and takecorrective or improvement actions when required.
• Contribute to the modification and optimisationof laboratory testing procedures.
• Perform numerical modelling and analysis usingPLAXIS 2D.
• Prepare high-quality technical and researchreports, including data interpretation and discussion.
• Support literature reviews and contribute toresearch outputs linked to project objectives.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinaryresearch team while maintaining a high level of independence.
