Job summary

Scale is hiring Applied AI Engineers to build customized AI applications for public sector clients, leveraging the latest AI techniques and open-source models. You will also help create datasets, evaluations, and fine-tuning to maximize performance for real-world use cases with global reach.

Ideal candidates have a strong engineering background and hands-on experience deploying AI/ML in production, plus cloud experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure. Travel up to two weeks per quarter is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related quantitative field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 7+ years of post-graduation engineering experience with proficiency in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, or C++.
• 2+ years applying AI/ML in production environments (deploying DL solutions, generative/agentic apps, or evaluation pipelines).
• Familiarity with cloud-based ML tools and platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Strong problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to ML models and datasets.
• Excellent written and verbal communication to collaborate in cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Partner with public sector clients to understand challenges and define AI-driven solutions.
• Build and deploy end-to-end AI applications into production using the latest lab and open-source models.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data annotation specialists, to create high-quality training datasets.
• Design and maintain robust evaluation frameworks to ensure model reliability and performance.
• Participate in customer engagements, including travel (about two weeks per quarter).
• Contribute to scaling AI capabilities in the public sector through hands-on knowledge sharing.
