Job description

The Project Director - EPC Power provides end-to-end leadership for the delivery of large-scale engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects within the power sector, including thermal, combined-cycle, renewable, and transmission and substation projects. The role is accountable for delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required technical and quality standards, while managing complex client, consortium, and regulatory relationships. The Project Director acts as the single point of accountability for project outcomes, balancing commercial, technical, and stakeholder demands across the full project lifecycle from contract award through commissioning and handover.

Responsibilities:
End-to-End EPC Project Leadership

Own the full delivery of power EPC projects from contract award through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover, ensuring all phases are tightly integrated and aligned with the master project schedule. Act as the primary point of accountability to the client, joint venture partners, and internal leadership for overall project performance, proactively resolving cross-functional bottlenecks that threaten schedule or budget.

Direct the interface between engineering disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical, I&C) and construction teams to ensure design outputs are constructible, code-compliant, and aligned with owner's technical specifications. Drive timely resolution of design changes, technical queries, and interdisciplinary clashes to avoid downstream rework and schedule slippage on critical power generation and grid interconnection packages.

Procurement & Supply Chain Coordination

Oversee procurement strategy and execution for major equipment packages, including turbines, generators, transformers, switchgear, and balance-of-plant systems, ensuring vendor selection, expediting, and logistics are managed to protect the critical path. Partner with the supply chain function to mitigate long-lead equipment risks and manage vendor quality and factory acceptance testing.

Provide executive oversight of site construction activities, ensuring work fronts are sequenced efficiently, subcontractor performance is monitored against plan, and construction quality meets project specifications. Lead the transition into pre-commissioning and commissioning phases, coordinating with OEMs and commissioning teams to achieve reliable plant start-up and performance test completion.

Cost Control, Schedule & Commercial Management

Maintain rigorous control over project cost and schedule baselines, driving earned value analysis, variance reporting, and corrective action planning to protect project margins. Oversee contract administration, variation orders, and claims management to safeguard the organization's commercial position throughout the project lifecycle.

HSE & Process Safety Leadership

Champion a zero-harm safety culture across all project sites, ensuring rigorous adherence to HSE regulations, permit-to-work systems, and process safety requirements specific to high-voltage and high-pressure power infrastructure. Drive proactive hazard identification and incident prevention programs across all contractors and subcontractors on site.

Client, Consortium & Stakeholder Management

Serve as the primary interface with the client, EPC consortium partners, financiers, and regulatory bodies, ensuring transparent reporting and timely resolution of issues that could impact project delivery. Build and maintain strong working relationships that support smooth project execution and position the organization for repeat business.

Establish and maintain a comprehensive project risk register, proactively identifying technical, commercial, and schedule risks and implementing mitigation and contingency plans. Escalate material risks to senior leadership with clear recommendations to protect project outcomes and organizational reputation.

Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance

Ensure all project deliverables comply with applicable grid codes, utility interconnection standards, and international engineering codes and standards. Strengthen QA/QC frameworks across engineering, procurement, and construction to ensure defect-free delivery and successful performance testing and handover to the client.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.

Master's Degree in Engineering Management, Project Management, or Business Administration is preferred.

PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification is highly preferred

Experience:
  • Minimum 15-18 years of experience delivering large-scale EPC power projects, including at least 6-8 years in a Project Director or senior project leadership role on thermal, combined-cycle, renewable, or transmission and substation projects.
  • Proven track record managing multi-disciplinary EPC teams and subcontractors through the full project lifecycle, from FEED and detailed engineering through construction, commissioning, and performance testing.

Strong experience in contract administration, claims management, and commercial negotiation on FIDIC or equivalent EPC contract forms, including managing client and consortium relationships on complex, high-value power projects.

Knowledge and Skills:
Power Sector EPC Expertise

Deep understanding of power generation technologies, grid interconnection requirements, and EPC delivery models specific to thermal, renewable, and transmission projects.

Project Controls & Commercial Acumen

Strong ability to manage project cost, schedule, and contract performance using earned value management and other project controls methodologies.

Working knowledge of multi-disciplinary engineering coordination and construction sequencing for complex power infrastructure projects.

Skilled in identifying and mitigating project risks while managing relationships with clients, consortium partners, and regulatory authorities.

HSE & Quality Leadership

Proven ability to embed process safety, HSE, and quality assurance standards across large, multi-contractor project sites.
