Job summary

McDermott International, Ltd is seeking a Principal NDT Tech to lead NDT inspection activities and coordinate cross‑team efforts. You will perform weld examinations by PAUT, TOFD, PT, MT, ET, RT, MUT, following project plans and codes, and report results to Quality Inspectors and project stakeholders.

You will ensure equipment is calibrated, setup is correct, and NDT techniques are developed for complex geometries. The role requires 5+ years in NDT and internationally recognized certifications.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Degree of relevant background.
  • 5+ years in the NDE method they are being hired for ASNT, PCN, or CSWIP Level II qualification.
  • Proficient in computer use and Microsoft programs.
  • Experienced with ES Beam tool and applicable preparation software.
  • Occupationally qualified to PCN/CSWIP/ASNT schemes to determine competency.

Responsibilities

  • Perform NDT examination of welds and materials by PAUT, TOFD, PT, MT, ET, RT, MUT per project plan and specs.
  • Execute examinations per approved NDT procedures and codes.
  • Determine acceptance or rejection based on criteria.
  • Coordinate with Quality Inspector to complete tasks and report non-conformances.
  • Maintain NDT equipment and calibration records; ensure proper setup and daily workflow.
  • Assist in training team members and develop inspection techniques.

Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Perform NDT examination of welds and materials by any one of the following methods and qualifications (i.e., PAUT, TOFD, PT, MT, ET, RT, MUT) in accordance with a written Project NDT Plan, NDT Procedures, Code, and Contractual Specification
  • Execute the examination in accordance with approved NDT procedures and internationally recognized codes/specs
  • Determine acceptance/rejection based on the defined criteria
  • Liaise with the assigned Quality Inspector to determine the completion of assigned tasks
  • Report conforming work and identify non-conforming work for rectification
  • Ensure rectified work is inspected by the Quality Inspector prior to examination by the original NDT Method
  • Ensure proper maintenance of NDT equipment and Calibration records
  • Set up the equipment before the inspection (as required)
  • Make a scan plan and system setup, referring to the technique sheet (as required)
  • Perform a system calibration (static and dynamic) before, during, and after inspection (daily routine)
  • Evaluate and decide the weld quality (accept/reject); refer to the code and acceptance criteria (Daily routine)
  • Prepare an accuracy and completeness inspection report using an approved report format (Daily routine)
  • Maintain all equipment prior, during, and after work completion (as required)
  • Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results
  • Support the development of NDE inspection techniques for complex geometries
  • Assist in training and developing others within the team
  • Perform duties ethically and safely in accordance with the professional occupation guidelines
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education
  • High School Diploma or Degree of relevant background
  • 5+ years in the NDE method they are being hired for ASNT, PCN, or CSWIP Level II qualification
  • Proficient in the use of computer and Microsoft programs
  • Experienced in the use of the applicable preparation software, i.e., ES Beam tool
  • Be occupationally qualified to internationally recognized schemes to determine competency (i.e., PCN, CSWIP, ASNT, etc.) requirements
  • Be proficient in assessing examination results accurately, sentencing welds, and reporting same, according to the relevant code/spec acceptance criteria
  • Ability to do an acceptable data acquisition (data collection) during weld inspection (daily routine)
  • Ability to read a code and acceptance criteria (Daily routine)
