Job summary

QatarEnergy is seeking a senior geoscientist to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and provide geological support for exploration across international non-operated assets. The role includes evaluating new ventures, maturation of prospects, and QA/QC of operator work to support Venture decisions and management approval.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of international geological exploration experience.
• Proven track record in prospect maturation and geologic risk assessment.
• Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and ventures.
• Strong mentoring skills and ability to guide younger staff.
• Extensive exposure to oil and natural gas exploration and development.
• Proven ability to influence JV partners and senior management.
• Well connected across the Americas and IOC non-operated ventures.
• Proficient in Petrel, GeoX, ArcGIS; PaleoScan and Basin Modelling preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide geological support for exploration activities across QatarEnergy's international non-operated assets.
• Screen new venture opportunities, evaluate prospects and leads, and assist drilling prep and monitoring.
• Coordinate NOJV asset management, submit business plans, scorecards, and risk registers.
• Update senior management on TCM/OCM recommendations and align operator plans with QatarEnergy positions.
• Represent QatarEnergy in technical meetings and document minutes and positions.
• Foster knowledge exchange and drive continuous improvement across assets and regions.

Primary Purpose Of The Job

Collaborating with multi-disciplinary project teams and peers to provide geological support for all exploration activities and studies across QATARENERGY’s International non-operated assets. Activities will include new venture opportunity screening, prospect & lead evaluation, drilling preparation & monitoring and integrated geoscience studies to QAQC operator’s work supporting Venture decisions and seeking QATARENERGY management approval.

Primary Purpose Of The Job

Collaborating with multi-disciplinary project teams and peers to provide geological support for all exploration activities and studies across QATARENERGY’s International non-operated assets. Activities will include new venture opportunity screening, prospect & lead evaluation, drilling preparation & monitoring and integrated geoscience studies to QAQC operator’s work supporting Venture decisions and seeking QATARENERGY management approval.

Additional key responsibilities include NOJV Asset Management such as support of submission of Annual Business Plans, Scorecards, upkeep of Venture Risk registers, timely update of Senior Management on TCM and OCM Asset recommendations and influencing the Operators’ plans to align with QatarEnergy’s preferred position, specifically on synergies and cost savings where applicable. Coordination and representation of the company in all technical meetings, ownership of the minutes documenting QatarEnergy’s position, fostering respectful communication and knowledge exchange and providing support for continuous improvement to the assets/regions assigned.

Required Experience And Skills

• Oil/gas finder with 15+ years experience as geological explorer in International oil companies
• Proven track record of prospect maturation, geologic risking and resource volume estimation
• Demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams, projects and ventures
• A keen explorer who enjoys working within a close team of professionals to mature exploration projects and provide clear recommendations for the company and JV
• An ability to enthuse the team and to mentor younger staff as well as to reach across different disciplines
• Should have demonstrable experience in oil and natural gas exploration and development projects in a wide range of sedimentary basins and tectonic settings globally, pre and post salt basins, basin and play led exploration from inception to prospect generation and drill-ready well locations
• Must be able to work in a non-operated capacity demonstrating communication skills fundamental to preserving credibility and influencing QatarEnergy’s operating JV partners
• Networked and experienced in the Americas portfolio throughout some/most of their career
• Experience of non-operated ventures with multiple IOCs is required
• Software Proficiency: Petrel Suite, GeoX, ArcGiS necessary. PaleoScan, Basin Modelling software preferred

Educational Qualifications

M.Sc. in a core Geoscience subject as a minimum
