Job summary

BSL is seeking a skilled IMS Maintenance Support Engineer to drive maintenance tasking and verification, ensuring efficient operations and cost control. You will analyse fleet needs, develop and maintain work packages, and coordinate with planning and service teams to uphold airworthiness and regulatory standards.

You will review task performance, manage emergent work, and apply human factors principles to reduce errors while supporting contractual requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum NVQ3/ONC in a relevant discipline or Part 66 Cat A.
  • Recent experience in a Maintenance & Support environment with fleet records.
  • Understand reliability programmes and their impact on maintenance.
  • Good data integrity understanding for fleet planning and tasking & verification.
  • Human factors and E&PW course; UK Driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse maintenance requirements against the approved Tactical Fleet plan and Fleet Maintenance Plan, creating and updating SoW.
  • Develop and maintain work packages with technical instructions, resources, and materiel needs.
  • Plan emergent work to balance workload with schedule requirements; update SoW accordingly.
  • Collaborate with Fleet Planning, Demand Management, Part 145, Technical Services, Airworthiness Records and suppliers to meet continuing airworthiness standards.
  • Review maintenance task performance across locations and report trends; escalate issues.
  • Assess changes in customer requirements for impact on maintenance tasking & verification and implement changes.
  • Ensure maintenance activity aligns with certificate of maintenance and is appropriately authorised.

Job description

The IMS Maintenance Support Engineer should, through the effective utilisation of subject matter knowledge and experience, support the delivery of Maintenance Tasking & Verification at strategic and tactical levels, to enable the maximisation of operational efficiency and minimisation of costs.

The Post Holder should have good to strong quantitative and analytical skills/experience, with Lean management principles, and be an effective, credible communicator with good interpersonal skills. They require product knowledge and a good understanding of the relationship with interfacing/contributory areas and are able to analyse and interpret data with a high level of attention to detail.

Core Activity
  • Against the requirements of the approved Tactical Fleet plan, and the Fleet Maintenance Plan (where applicable), analysing the maintenance requirements for specific aircraft or components, highlighting and, where practical, resolving any issues and ensuring the timely creation of the Statement of Work (SoW).
  • Developing and maintaining the associated work package(s), including the technical instructions, resource and materiel requirements for the individual maintenance activity. Ensuring independent inspection and safety critical task requirements are documented and appropriately identified.
  • Undertaking the planning of additional and emergent work during maintenance, to ensure work load is managed effectively against schedule requirements. Ensure the Statement of Work is updated and re-authorised to reflect any changes.
  • Working with Fleet Planning, Demand Management, Part 145 organisation, Technical Services, Airworthiness Records and third party suppliers in order to deliver the required standards of continuing airworthiness and contract delivery.
  • Reviewing and reporting on the effectiveness of maintenance task performance in Forward, Depth and Suppliers and escape any issues as appropriate. Reviewing and reporting on the effectiveness of the SoW, Pre-Input and Post-Output Review Meeting (PIRM & PORM) processes, maintenance task performance and additional/emergent work requirements across all responsible maintenance locations, both On & Off aircraft. Ensuring that any trends are identified and escalated, as appropriate.
  • Ensuring that changes in the Customer’s requirements are reviewed for impact on the Maintenance Tasking & Verification activity and implemented appropriately, e.g. Fatigue Life limits, Capability upgrades, Customer-approved modification programmes, etc.
  • Against the requirements defined in the approved SoW, including any amendments where applicable, assessing the maintenance activity detailed in the certificate of maintenance, to assure that all requirements have been completed, or correctly authorised and deferred.
Key Accountabilities
  • Performance indicators – Ensure the effective provision of Maintenance Tasking & Verification activities by meeting delivery targets and reporting any impact on Continuing Airworthiness. Understand how individual actions contribute to overall delivery performance.
  • Completion of activities – Ensure all Maintenance Tasking & Verification activities are appropriately documented and airworthiness records are maintained on relevant systems (IT/paper based). Compile required reporting, identify any issues and upset as appropriate.
  • Procedure/standards – Comply with the CAME, its associated procedures and standards and any other Company procedures and standards, as applicable. Identify and propose changes, as required.
  • Safety Management System – Ensure Human Factors and Error Management philosophies are applied to all Maintenance Tasking & Verification activities. Understand the risks associated with Maintenance Tasking & Verification and the means by which they are mitigated and managed.
  • Management System Assurance – Ensure Maintenance Tasking & Verification activities are compliant with the QAF Governance and Assurance framework, including supporting Process Confirmations and independent assurance audits. Support the response to audit findings in a timely and appropriate manner and provide information into the relevant reviews. Support the implementation of identified improvements to overcome any non-compliance and monitor effectiveness.
  • Statutory / Regulatory & Legislative requirements – Able to demonstrate an appropriate level of understanding and application of the relevant Continuing Airworthiness Regulatory framework. Support the implementation of any Regulatory-driven changes into the Maintenance Tasking & Verification activities. Ensure compliance with all other requirements, e.g. ITAR, EaPW, ISO, etc.
  • Contractual Requirements – Ensure compliance with applicable contractual requirements, e.g. through support to contract reviews and the incorporation of required changes into the Maintenance Tasking & Verification processes.
Requirements
  • Minimum of a recognised qualification to NVQ3/ONC level in a relevant Data Management or Technical discipline, or Part 66 Category A qualified, or suitable equivalent
  • Recent in-depth experience, to a level appropriate for their role, within a Maintenance & Support environment, including direct experience of supporting or maintaining fleets of aircraft and the associated Continuing Airworthiness Records
  • Demonstrate an understanding of reliability programmes and the impact of their findings on the operator maintenance programme.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of data integrity with respect to fleet planning and maintenance tasking & verification.
  • Provide direction and advice to the data integrity teams on records related issues, addressing individual aircraft or components and fleet-wide issues.
