Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field is required.
  • Recognised teaching qualification is required.
  • Significant leadership experience within an infant, early years, or primary school setting.
  • Strong understanding of early childhood development and effective infant school practice.
  • Proven ability to lead teaching and learning improvements and raise standards.
  • Experience in staff management, performance development, and team leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum planning, assessment and pupil progress monitoring.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and student wellbeing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day management and strategic development of the Infant School.
  • Create a safe, caring and stimulating learning environment where young children can thrive.
  • Drive high standards in teaching, learning, assessment and curriculum delivery across the infant phase.
  • Support, develop and inspire teaching and support staff through effective leadership, coaching and performance management.
  • Monitor pupil progress and wellbeing using data and observation to identify priorities and improve outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, safeguarding and child-centred practice throughout the school.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to align infant school priorities with whole-school goals.
  • Build strong relationships with parents and carers maintaining open and constructive communication.
  • Oversee planning, staffing, timetabling and resource allocation within the infant school.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, inspection standards and local regulatory requirements.
  • Lead school improvement initiatives and contribute to self-evaluation and development planning.
  • Champion high expectations for behaviour, attendance and engagement.
  • Support the induction and ongoing development of new staff.
  • Represent the infant school positively within the wider school community.
