Job summary

WSP in the Middle East in Doha is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer - Substation to lead the planning, design, construction, testing and commissioning of high-voltage substations from 132kV to 400kV.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years in transmission substations, familiarity with GIS switchgear, protection schemes and relay coordination, and proficiency in AutoCAD and design tools. PE license preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering for transmission substations (132kV–400kV).
• Strong knowledge of GIS switchgear, protection schemes, and relay coordination.
• Experience with project planning, budgeting, and document control.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of 132kV–400kV GIS substation projects from construction to commissioning.
• Collaborate with internal and client teams to align plans, schedules and budgets.
• Review drawings, specifications and technical documents for substations.
• Coordinate with contractors and vendors to procure equipment and services.
• Supervise installation, testing and commissioning of substation equipment.
• Perform site inspections and QA checks to ensure safety and quality.
• Provide technical guidance to project teams and clients.
• Prepare progress reports and as-built drawings for client review.

As an Electrical Engineer- Substation, you will be managing and coordinating the planning, design, construction, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems for transmission GIS substation projects from 132kV to 400kV level.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of electrical systems for transmission GIS substation from 132kV to 400kV level projects, from construction to commissioning stage. Experiences in GIS Switchgear, SS equipment installation, Control Protection, Telecommunication, Pre-commissioning Testing, LDC integration & Commissioning of plant.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop project plans, schedules, and budgets in alignment with client requirements and industry standards.
• Review and evaluate engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents related to the substation.
• Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and vendors to procure equipment, materials, and services necessary for project execution.
• Supervise the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical equipment and systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety regulations.
• Conduct site inspections and quality assurance checks to verify the integrity and performance of electrical installations.
• Address technical issues and resolve challenges encountered during the construction and operation phases of projects.
• Provide technical guidance and support to project team members, subcontractors, and clients as needed.
• Prepare comprehensive progress reports, documentation, and as-built drawings for client review and approval.
• Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to electrical engineering, and substations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Minimum of 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on both transmission substations from 132kV to 400kV level projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, electrical design software, and other relevant engineering tools.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, equipment, and components used in substations.
• Experience with power distribution, protection schemes, and relay coordination for both substations.
