Qualifications

  • Master's degree in counselling or related field required.
  • Experience with IB programs and middle school counselling preferred.
  • Ability to support multilingual families and diverse student needs.

Responsibilities

  • Attend PSLT and Inclusion/Well-being meetings.
  • Provide individual and group counselling per ISCA standards.
  • Conduct needs assessments and develop intervention plans.
  • Advocate for student well-being with teachers, staff and parents.
  • Utilise data-driven approaches to inform counselling strategies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to foster a supportive learning environment.
  • Lead SEL classes for middle school students as scheduled.
  • Participate in PTA meetings when necessary and support school assemblies.
  • Coordinate events promoting inclusive school culture.
  • Maintain confidential counselling records.
  • Contribute to staff induction and ongoing professional development.
  • Follow safeguarding protocols and reporting procedures.
  • Support IEP meetings and access arrangements for neurodiverse students.

Job description

Scope: Primary School
Reporting to: Head of Inclusion and Student Wellbeing
Secondary Reporting to: Head of Primary School

In order to fill this role effectively, the successful candidate will need to have a diverse range of qualities, competencies and experience. He/She should be an outstanding learner, motivator and communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills, and should be capable of creating an environment of mutual support and respect by identifying and addressing factors that inhibit learning. He/she should be able to provide support to students, staff and parents to facilitate the development of an internationally minded community which shares a common interest in preserving the environment, caring for each other and engaging enthusiastically in learning.

Qualifications and experience.

The school prefers people with:

  • Master's Degree in School Counselling or equivalent
  • Experience in IB school setting with Middle school work experience
  • Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a culturally diverse student and parent population.

  • Adhere to the highest ethical standards in counseling, including maintaining confidentiality, informed consent, and ensuring the well-being and safety of all students.
  • The counsellor must demonstrate cultural competence and implement strategies that effectively support multilingual families within the school community.
  • The counsellor should be familiar with school data systems such as Toddle, MAP, and Amplify to monitor and analyze student well-being trends.
Responsibilities
  • To attend meetings with the Primary School Leadership Team (PSLT) and Inclusion and Well-being Team
  • Provide comprehensive counseling services in accordance with ISCA standards, including individual and group counseling sessions, crisis intervention, and preventive programs to address the social and emotional needs of middle school students.
  • Conduct regular needs assessments to identify students' academic, social, and emotional needs, and develop tailored intervention plans based on these assessments.
  • Advocate for the well-being of students by collaborating with teachers, administrators, and parents to ensure that students receive the necessary support and resources to succeed academically and emotionally.
  • Utilize data-driven approaches to make informed decisions about counseling strategies and interventions, with a focus on student outcomes and well-being.
  • Collaborate with educational stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and external agencies, to create a collaborative and supportive environment that fosters student success and well-being.
  • To facilitate workshops aimed at enhancing the social and emotional well-being of the school community and specific interest groups within the school community.
  • To actively engage in and contribute to Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meetings when necessary, fostering collaboration and open communication between the counseling department, parents, and the school community.
  • To actively participate in school assemblies to share valuable information related to social and emotional development, promoting awareness and understanding among students and staff
  • To assist in the coordination and organization of school events as needed, with a focus on promoting a positive and inclusive school culture.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and interventions
  • To actively participate in the induction program for new staff members.
  • The counsellor will be responsible for planning and delivering scheduled Social Emotional Learning (SEL) classes for middle school students, ensuring these sessions align with ISCA standards.
  • The counsellor must follow all safeguarding and child protection protocols, including accurate reporting and adherence to referral pathways as outlined by school policy.
  • The counsellor will actively contribute to Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings and assist in implementing access arrangements for neurodiverse students.
  • The counsellor is expected to engage in ongoing professional development, including ISCA standards and trauma-informed practices, to maintain best practices in student well-being.
