Job summary

Mackinnon Mackenzie & Co of Pakistan is seeking engineers to manage the operation and optimization of MSFE systems in a desalination plant in Qatar. The role emphasizes maximizing freshwater production while maintaining energy efficiency, safety, and environmental standards.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s or related diploma in engineering, with 5–6 years of experience in similar roles within large companies, and a deep understanding of power/energy and water sectors.

Responsibilities

• Monitor MSFE system operation from central control room to maximize freshwater production and energy efficiency.
• Adjust feed flow, steam pressures and temperatures to optimize MSFE performance.
• Coordinate with maintenance teams to resolve operational issues promptly.
• Ensure safety, environmental compliance and adherence to procedures.
• Analyse data and trends to identify performance improvements and prevent issues.
• Collaborate with plant personnel to align MSFE operation with overall plant objectives.
• Provide training to junior engineers and operators on MSFE operation and safety.

Responsibilities

Manage the operation and optimization of Multi‑Stage Flash Evaporation (MSFE) systems from the central control room of a desalination plant, with the goal of maximizing freshwater production while maintaining energy efficiency and adherence to safety and environmental standards.

• Continuously monitor the operation and performance of MSFE units from the central control room, ensuring that all parameters are within specified ranges for efficient and reliable operation.
• Adjust operating parameters such as feed flow rates, steam pressures, and temperatures to optimize MSFE performance in terms of freshwater production, energy efficiency and reliability.
• Identify and resolve any issues or abnormalities in MSFE operation, coordinating with maintenance teams to address mechanical or operational problems promptly.
• Ensure that MSFE operation complies with all relevant safety standards, environmental regulations, and operating procedures to prevent accidents and maintain required quality standards.
• Analyse operational data and trends to identify opportunities for improving MSFE performance, efficiency and reliability, as well as predicting and preventing potential issues.
• Work closely with other plant personnel, including operators, maintenance technicians, and control room operators, to coordinate MSFE operation with overall plant processes and objectives.

Provide training and guidance to junior engineers and operators on MSFE operation, safety protocols, and best practices to ensure effective and efficient plant operation.

Team Supervision

Provide guidance and on‑the‑job training for junior colleagues and conduct knowledge sharing to facilitate achievement of team objectives and completion of tasks in an efficient manner, consistent with operating procedures and policy.

Budgeting and Financial Performance

Monitor the financial performance of a given area of activity versus budgets and ensure all activities are carried out in line with the approved guidelines while promptly reporting on any variances to management.

Provide inputs and implement policies, systems and procedures for the assigned team so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled, while delivering a quality, cost‑effective service.

Participate in the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability of systems, processes and practices, considering global standards, productivity improvement and cost reduction.
