ABOUT THE ROLE

The Project Manager - GenAI and Automation is a delivery-focused role within the Applied AI - AI Productivity and Custom GPT Solutions Practice. The role manages the end-to-end delivery of GenAI assistants, agents, Custom GPTs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions, AI-enabled applications, reusable AI capabilities, and intelligent automation initiatives. This project manager partners closely with product owners, architects, engineers, data and platform teams, business subject-matter experts, cybersecurity, privacy, responsible AI, enterprise architecture, DevOps, and external partners. The role is accountable for delivery planning, Agile execution, cross-team coordination, risk and dependency management, stakeholder communication, governance readiness, and operational handover across geographically distributed teams in Portugal, the United States, and India.

RESPONSIBILITIES
GenAI and Automation Delivery Management
  • Plan and manage GenAI, AI, automation, and software initiatives from intake and discovery through design, build, evaluation, deployment, adoption, and operational handover.
  • Develop and maintain integrated delivery plans covering scope, milestones, deliverables, resources, dependencies, release dates, acceptance criteria, and business outcomes.
  • Coordinate delivery across product owners, GenAI architects, software engineers, data engineers, user-experience specialists, platform and DevOps teams, security partners, business SMEs, and vendors.
  • Manage multiple concurrent initiatives and maintain clear visibility into priorities, progress, decisions, blockers, risks, capacity, and required leadership actions.
  • Support roadmap development, intake triage, prioritization, release planning, and sequencing of reusable capabilities such as AI assistants, RAG components, MCP-based apps, integrations, Skills, and Workspace Agents.
  • Ensure technical documentation, testing evidence, operating procedures, support models, training materials, and handover deliverables are completed before release.
Agile and Scaled Agile Execution
  • Lead Agile delivery activities, including sprint planning, daily stand- ups, backlog refinement, reviews and demonstrations, retrospectives, release planning, and continuous-improvement actions.
  • Facilitate Scaled Agile activities such as program increment planning, cross-team dependency management, feature and epic tracking, system demonstrations, and planning across shared platform teams.
  • Partner with product owners and technical leads to translate objectives into epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and clear definitions of ready and done.
  • Track delivery health using appropriate measures such as capacity, velocity, burnup or burndown, cycle time, predictability, release readiness, defects, and outcome-based metrics.
  • Identify and remove delivery impediments, coordinate decisions across teams, and elevate issues early with clear options and recommendations.
  • Promote disciplined engineering and delivery practices without adding unnecessary process or slowing experimentation and learning.
Stakeholder, Risk, and Governance Management
  • Serve as the central delivery contact for business sponsors, product owners, technical teams, platform owners, and senior stakeholders, providing concise and decision-oriented status communications.
  • Maintain risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies, decisions, and action logs; drive timely ownership, resolution, and escalation.
  • Coordinate architecture, cybersecurity, privacy, responsible AI, data-governance, legal, and regulatory reviews as required by the solution risk profile.
  • Ensure project plans account for AI-specific quality and control activities, including evaluation, groundedness testing, access controls, human oversight, monitoring, operational readiness, and incident-response planning.
  • Manage changes to scope, priority, schedule, and resources using transparent impact assessments and stakeholder alignment.
  • Coordinate third-party vendors and delivery partners, including commitments, dependencies, deliverable quality, knowledge transfer, and adherence to Amgen standards.
Global Team Coordination and Adoption
  • Establish effective working agreements, communication rhythms, and handoff practices for teams distributed across Portugal, the United States, and India.
  • Facilitate meetings across time zones and use clear asynchronous documentation so decisions, actions, and technical dependencies remain visible to all participants.
  • Support launch, adoption, change-management, and enablement activities, including stakeholder briefings, demonstrations, office hours, communications, and feedback collection.
  • Build trusted relationships across business and technology teams and create an inclusive delivery environment that supports accountability, collaboration, and shared outcomes.
  • Continuously improve the team delivery model, templates, metrics, governance checkpoints, and reusable project-management practices.
