Philip Morris International is looking for a Head of Data Science to drive their data strategy at the Global Data & Analytics Hub in Lisbon, Portugal. In this role, you will lead a team of data scientists, focusing on creating actionable insights based on data science principles.

The ideal candidate should have over 7 years of experience in Data Science and a Ph.D. in a relevant field. The position offers opportunities to shape a consumer-centric business and use cutting-edge technologies, with support for professional development and innovation.

Qualificações

To further enhance our capabilities and ensure strategic alignment of our data initiatives, we recognize the need for a dedicated Head of Data Science. This role is crucial for driving our data strategy, fostering a culture of data‑driven decision‑making, and leading a team of dedicated data scientists. The Head of Data Science is instrumental in identifying new opportunities for leveraging data, ensuring the quality and integrity of our data products, and maintaining our competitive edge in the market.

This role implies both individual contribution to production code and managing/coordination role to focus the Data Scientists team effort to deliver a business solution and develop capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Build D&A analytical capabilities as a customer‑centric service, delivering relevant and actionable insights for business challenges throughout analytics based on data science principles. Continually improve the service by integrating customer feedback and evolving needs.
• Build a strong alliance with key business leads, create a constant appetite and understanding of the business value of the insights built on data and analytics, set realistic expectations, deliver insights leveraging data visualization and data storytelling techniques, automate decision‑making, and follow up on findings and recommendations.
• Lead the team of Data Scientists, coach, support their development, and establish a well‑balanced team of internal and external resources capable of reacting to fluctuating demand for analytics requests and delivering according to expectations.
• Ensure effective and efficient allocation of resources around selected and prioritized analytics projects, keeping agile principles in mind.
• Operate efficiently within the PMI environment, managing budgeting, governance structures and processes, information systems, and the organizational landscape.
• Keep track of industry standards and developments, and bring in new technologies, algorithms and frameworks.

Qualifications

• College/University degree – Ph.D. in a relevant field (Mathematics, Computer Sciences) or equivalent.
• 7+ years’ experience in Data Science with a proven record of leading Data Science teams.
• Experience working in PMI affiliates is a plus.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL. Knowledge of R, Scala, or PySpark is a plus.
• Experience with CI/CD principles: software development, testing, versioning (e.g., Bitbucket), and the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Experience with AWS stack and proficiency with large language models.
• Knowledge of MLOps practices for deploying and maintaining models in production.
• Understanding of data governance: data privacy, security, and compliance issues.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and a hypothesis‑driven approach.
• Independence in conceptualizing, formulating, prototyping, and implementing algorithms to address business challenges.
• Proficiency in English, spoken and written, with the ability to present ideas effectively.
