Pixelmatters is a Porto-based digital product studio seeking a Senior Full-Stack Engineer with expertise in Ruby on Rails and React to build scalable, high-performance products across the stack.

You will design backend and frontend architectures, develop RESTful APIs, and optimize performance while upholding engineering standards. Fluency in English and Portuguese is required; the company offers a Porto office with remote-as-default and office-as-an-option policy.

Qualificações

• At least 5+ years of software engineering experience including strong full-stack capabilities.
• Proven expertise with Ruby on Rails and React and ability to make architectural decisions across both layers.
• Solid understanding of software architecture, system design, and engineering best practices.
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs.
• Good knowledge of databases including schema design, performance optimization, and data integrity.

We're looking for you, a meticulous, curious, and adaptable Senior Full-Stack Engineer, who has the ability to design and deliver scalable, high-performance digital products across the entire stack. You combine deep technical expertise with strong ownership, contributing to the team by building reliable solutions and helping maintain engineering standards.

Your role will focus on designing, implementing, and evolving full-stack architectures using Ruby on Rails on the back-end and React on the front-end. You will participate in technical discussions and help ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and maintainable. You will be involved in all stages of product development, from front-end implementation and API design to database modeling. While the primary focus will be on back-end development with Ruby on Rails, you'll contribute across the full stack to help deliver the product end-to-end.

Some of your day-to-day tasks will include designing scalable back-end and front-end architectures, developing and optimizing RESTful APIs, implementing UI components in React, defining database schemas, reviewing code, and proactively identifying performance, reliability, and security improvements across the system.

Requirements

• At least 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with strong experience as a Full-Stack Engineer.

• Proven expertise with Ruby on Rails and React, or similar frameworks, with the ability to make architectural decisions across both layers.

• Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, and engineering best practices.

• Solid experience designing and building RESTful APIs.

• Good knowledge of databases, including schema design, performance optimization, and data integrity practices (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis).

• Experience optimizing data flow across the stack, including API design, caching strategies, and front-end rendering performance.

• Fluency with agentic AI tools (such as Claude Code or Cursor) as a regular part of your development workflow.

• Good understanding of front-end architecture patterns, state management, and component-driven development in React.

• Proficiency with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing across both front-end and back-end.

• Strong experience with Git workflows and collaborative development in multi-branch environments.

• Excellent understanding of English and Portuguese (written and spoken).

It would be awesome if you also have…

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP is a plus).

• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

• Knowledge of system observability, structured logging, and performance profiling tools.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience contributing to cross-project technical initiatives or architectural consistency.

• Passion for improving internal standards and engineering practices.

Compensation

• The salary range for this role is between 37,500€ to €61,185 annual gross which includes meal, vacation, and Xmas allowance.
