ICEYE in Portugal is seeking an experienced backend engineer to deploy and operate our secure intelligence platform. You will design high-performance services, manage databases, and run Kubernetes and Docker workloads across on-premises and cloud environments.

You will collaborate with analysts and IT teams, implement infrastructure-as-code, and contribute to offline/isolated-network pipelines, all while ensuring security clearances and compliance with NATO standards.

Qualificações

• 5+ years of hands-on backend engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale.
• Strong Python programming skills; typed and tested services; familiarity with async APIs.
• Production experience in both cloud and on-premises environments.
• Deep Docker and Kubernetes experience, including deploying, debugging, and upgrading clusters.

Responsabilidades

• Deploy ICEYE's intelligence platform into secure customer environments, including on-premises networks and data centres.
• Install, upgrade, and operate Kubernetes clusters and Docker containerized applications in cloud and on-premises environments.
• Build Terraform and Ansible infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines that function without external internet access.
• Troubleshoot deployment and production issues across application, storage, and networking layers.
• Design and build low-latency APIs, services, and data pipelines for large volumes of SAR imagery and intelligence data.
• Integrate ICEYE systems with customer C4ISR infrastructure and intelligence tools.
• Own PostgreSQL and MongoDB database design and production performance, including schemas, indexing, tuning, replication, and backups.
• Apply caching, queueing, horizontal scaling, and capacity-planning patterns.
• Build monitoring, logging, and alerting for restricted environments.
• Harden deployments and own backup, recovery, and upgrade paths.
• Run infrastructure for AI workloads, including model serving, vector databases, and GPU nodes.
• Work with intelligence analysts, operators, and customer IT teams to understand operational and infrastructure requirements.
• Rapidly prototype and iterate solutions for immediate operational needs.
• Train customer administrators on platform operations.
• Feed deployment experience back to ICEYE product and engineering teams.

Requirements

• Must be based in Portugal and a native-level speaker of the country being deployed to
• Must be eligible and able to attain relevant national and NATO security clearances
• 5+ years of hands-on backend engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale
• Strong Python programming skills; typed and tested services; familiarity with async APIs
• Proven experience designing high-performance backend systems, including APIs, distributed services, messaging, caching, and databases under real load
• Production experience in both cloud and on-premises environments
• Deep Docker and Kubernetes experience, including deploying, debugging, and upgrading clusters
• GitOps and infrastructure-as-code experience
• Observability experience with metrics, logs, and alerts
• Terraform and Ansible experience
• CI/CD experience, ideally including offline or isolated-network pipelines
• PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB experience at production scale, including schema design, tuning, replication, backup, and recovery
• Strong communication and customer engagement skills
• Strong spoken and written English
• Willingness to travel 40-60% to customer sites within the region
