About Us
Your Tasks
As a Data Engineer, you will be central to the migration effort — not a lift-and-shift, but a thoughtful, quality-driven transition that improves what already exists. Your responsibilities will include:
- Engage with dataset owners across the business to understand what data exists, how it's used, and what needs to be migrated
- Assess current ingestion pipelines for correctness and reliability
- Map downstream dependencies before migrating any dataset
- Identify and flag PII fields across datasets, ensuring the new platform meets security, compliance, and legal requirements from the outset
- Review each pipeline critically during migration — not just reproduce it:
- Spot and fix bad joins, poorly structured queries, and unnecessary complexity
- Consolidate intermediate datasets where possible (e.g. reducing 4 staging layers to 2)
- Write data quality tests covering null checks, source-to-destination validation, and volumetry
- Set up monitoring and alerting infrastructure, with a view to supporting future on-call rotations via PagerDuty and Slack
- Validate that outputs from the new platform match the old platform before any decommissioning takes place
What do we expect from you?
Key Requirements:
- At least 3 years of experience in data engineering roles
- Advanced, hands‑on dbt experience
- Solid experience with infrastructure‑as‑code, ideally Terraform
- Strong SQL skills and a good eye for query performance
- Practical experience with AWS, particularly S3; familiarity with Athena and MSK is a plus
- Fluent English and strong communication skills — you'll be working with non-technical stakeholders and dataset owners regularly
- A methodical approach to data quality, compliance, and documentation
