Axians Portugal is looking for an AI Engineer to join a newly formed squad focused on maintaining and evolving a portfolio of production AI agents supporting back-office operations in the financial services sector. You will design, develop, and continuously improve AI agents, their reasoning flows, tool usage, prompts, and evaluation processes.

You will translate operational requirements into AI-driven solutions, ensure reliability and scalability, and work with stakeholders to deliver

Qualificações

• 3–6 years of Python software engineering experience.
• 1–2 years with LLM and Generative AI applications.
• Experience designing AI agents with tool calls and memory management.
• Knowledge of testing practices (pytest, deterministic testing).
• Advanced level of English (written and spoken).

Responsabilidades

• Develop and maintain AI agents in Python using LangGraph, LangChain, and internal tools.
• Design and optimize agent workflows, including task decomposition, tool integration, memory management, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop controls.
• Engineer, test, and maintain prompts, configurations, and deployment settings within Kubernetes environments.
• Build and execute evaluation frameworks, regression testing suites, quality metrics, and shadow testing processes to ensure agent performance.
• Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to translate operational requirements into AI-driven solutions.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for an AI Engineer to join a newly created squad responsible for maintaining and evolving a portfolio of production AI agents supporting back-office operations in the financial services sector. This role focuses on designing, developing, and continuously improving AI agents, optimizing their reasoning flows, tool usage, prompts, and evaluation processes. You will also contribute to adapting general-purpose AI solutions to specific business requirements while ensuring reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.

What You Will Do On a Daily Basis

• Develop and maintain AI agents in Python using frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, and internal development tools.
• Design and optimize agent workflows, including task decomposition, tool integration, memory management, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop controls.
• Engineer, test, and maintain prompts, configurations, and deployment settings within Kubernetes environments.
• Build and execute evaluation frameworks, regression testing suites, quality metrics, and shadow testing processes to ensure agent performance.
• Collaborate closely with business stakeholders and analysts to translate operational requirements into AI-driven solutions.

Your Key Skills

• Strong Python development experience applied to AI and Generative AI solutions.
• Experience with agentic AI frameworks such as CrewAI, LangGraph, LangChain, AutoGen, or similar.
• Solid knowledge of prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and LLM evaluation methodologies.
• Experience integrating and consuming REST and gRPC APIs, including asynchronous Python development.
• Understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, observability, and production-grade AI deployments.

Your Main Qualifications

• 3 to 6 years of experience in Python software engineering.
• At least 1 to 2 years of experience working with LLM and Generative AI applications.
• Experience designing AI agents with tool calling, structured outputs, memory management, and reasoning workflows.
• Knowledge of testing practices, including pytest, LLM mocking, and deterministic testing approaches.
• Advanced level of English (written and spoken).
