Job summary

Tate & Lyle is seeking a Senior Accounts Payable Specialist for Transportation and Freight to ensure accurate, timely invoice processing and strong controls in a global shared services environment. The role collaborates with Logistics, Procurement and Finance to resolve complex discrepancies and drive improvements.

The successful candidate will support month-end activities, maintain compliance, and contribute to automation initiatives while working in a hybrid setup at our Łódź location.

Responsibilities

• Own and oversee end-to-end processing of transportation and freight invoices, including validation, coding, matching, approval routing, and payment readiness.
• Review freight charges against contracts, purchase orders, shipment data, and supporting documentation.
• Investigate and resolve complex invoice discrepancies, duplicate billing, missing documentation, rate mismatches, and carrier disputes.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, segregation of duties requirements, tax rules, accounting policies, and audit standards.
• Support month-end closing activities related to freight accruals, open items, GR/IR balances, and aging analysis.
• Identify process gaps and drive improvements, automation opportunities, and standardization of freight invoice processing.

Tate & Lyle Global Shared Services Centre in Łódź is the principal location for handling the business support activities and processes for Tate & Lyle, both transactional as well as value-added business partnering support. Starting operations in 2011 with less than 50 people, we now have over 350 employees supporting operations globally. We have 30 teams operating in Łódź to provide service in the areas of Finance, Customer Service, Procurement, HR/People Services, and IS/IT

ROLE PURPOSE

The Senior Accounts Payable Specialist for Transportation/Freight is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing of freight-related invoices and charges. This role supports complex issue resolution, drives process improvements, and collaborates closely with Logistics, Supply Chain, Procurement , Finance and external transportation and freight suppliers. It is a specialized AP position requiring strong understanding of freight operations, carrier billing logic, SAP/process controls, and cross-functional issue resolution. This role ensures transportation costs are processed accurately, controlled properly, and reflected correctly in financial results.

Main accountabilities:

• Own and oversee end-to-end processing of transportation and freight invoices, including validation, coding, matching, approval routing, and payment readiness.
• Review freight charges against contracts, purchase orders, shipment data, and supporting documentation.
• Investigate and resolve complex invoice discrepancies, duplicate billing, missing documentation, rate mismatches, and carrier disputes.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, segregation of duties requirements, tax rules, accounting policies, and audit standards.
• Support month-end closing activities related to freight accruals, open items, GR/IR balances, and aging analysis.
• Identify process gaps and drive improvements, automation opportunities, and standardization of freight invoice processing.

• Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, analysis, and process explanations Efficiently process invoices or payments, meeting business and vendor expectations.
• Resolve business and vendor queries and issues effectively.
• Prepare regular and ad hoc reports.
• Implement formal process documentation and internal controls to meet agreed KPIs and SLAs, ensuring all targets are achieved.
• Lead projects and initiatives, serving as a subject matter expert with advanced knowledge of the process.
• Implement system enhancements and resolve system issues in cooperation with the Service Desk team.
• Contribute to a positive working environment within the Global Shared Services Centre (GSS).
• Complete other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
