Job summary

Worldline is seeking a Tech Lead in Risk Technology Services to steer the architectural strategy of our platform, own high‑level design decisions, and mentor engineers in a fast‑moving payments technology environment.

You will translate complex business requirements into robust, secure, scalable solutions, drive reliability with CI/CD and testing, and collaborate with Product and cross‑functional teams to deliver measurable value and help shape the future of risk technology.

Qualifications

• Proven Leadership: 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a clear trajectory of taking ownership in technical leadership roles.
• Strategic Maturity: Ability to articulate technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and influence decisions.
• Delivery Mindset: Experience in managing full-cycle software delivery within Agile environments.
• Mentorship: Interest in growing junior and mid-level talent and raising the bar for the team.
• Communication: Exceptional English proficiency for meetings, documentation, and collaboration.
• Regulated Industry Experience: Familiarity with KYC/AML and external data integrations is a strong advantage.

The opportunity

As a Tech Lead within Risk Technology Services, you move beyond individual development to orchestrating the technical strategy of our platform. You will own the architectural integrity of our services, mentor the engineers who build them, and serve as the primary technical interface for our business stakeholders. We are looking for a leader who balances hands-on technical excellence with the pragmatism required to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient software in a high-velocity environment.

Day-to-day Responsibilities

• Architectural Stewardship: Define the long-term technical roadmap. Own high-level design decisions-service boundaries, cross-service contracts, and data models-ensuring they align with both business objectives and engineering best practices.
• Team Enablement: Lead, mentor, and foster a culture of technical excellence. Empower team members through constructive code reviews, design critiques, and active professional development.
• Operational Leadership: Translate complex business requirements into robust, maintainable technical solutions. Act as the technical point of contact for Product and cross-functional leadership.
• Delivery Governance: Manage technical debt and drive initiatives for system reliability and performance. Champion resilience patterns, automated testing, and secure-by-design principles across the team.
• Engineering Standards: Establish and maintain high-bar coding standards, security protocols, and CI/CD practices. Lead complex incident investigations to ensure platform stability.
• Strategic Innovation: Stay ahead of industry trends and cloud-native advancements, advocating for the adoption of new technologies where they drive tangible business value.

Who Are We Looking For

Technical Competencies

• Backend Mastery: Deep expertise in modern Java (LTS) and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Security, OAuth2/JWT).
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Proven experience in AWS (or GCP/Azure). You possess a platform mindset, with hands-on experience in containerization (Docker, ECS/EKS) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/CloudFormation).
• Data & Integration: Advanced relational database experience (PostgreSQL/Oracle), including schema migration strategies (Flyway) and complex query optimization. Proficient in designing event-driven, asynchronous architectures.
• Observability & Resilience: Deep understanding of distributed tracing, logging, and metrics (OpenTelemetry, Datadog/CloudWatch). Proven ability to design for failure (circuit breakers, idempotency, retries).
• AI-Augmented Development: Extensive experience leveraging AI coding assistants and CLI tools to accelerate development velocity while maintaining code quality and security.

Experience & Requirements

• Proven Leadership: 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a clear trajectory of taking ownership in technical leadership roles.
• Strategic Maturity: Ability to articulate technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders. You possess the "quiet confidence" to influence decision-making and the pragmatism to know when not to add complexity.
• Delivery Mindset: Demonstrated success in managing full-cycle software delivery within an Agile environment.
• Mentorship: A genuine interest in growing junior and mid-level talent. You make the team better simply by raising the bar for the work they produce.
• Communication: Exceptional English proficiency, with the ability to lead meetings, document architectural decisions, and foster cross-functional collaboration.
• Regulated Industry Experience: Experience working in a regulated industry is a strong advantage, particularly familiarity with KYC, AML, and customer due diligence principles, as well as integrating with external data aggregators and screening services.
