Job summary

Payback PL is seeking a Principal AI & Data Scientist (Team Lead) to provide technical and people leadership for the Data Science team in a hybrid setup in Warszawa. You will build and deploy AI products, oversee the full ML lifecycle, and collaborate with business stakeholders to implement concrete AI solutions.

The role requires hands-on Python, strong GCP expertise (Vertex AI, BigQuery), and a proactive ML/Ops mindset with a focus on scalable, production-ready models.

Qualifications

• Experience in developing and operationalizing data science and AI products.
• Proficiency in Python for data analysis, data engineering, and ML model development.
• Hands-on GCP experience with Vertex AI, BigQuery and Cloud Storage.
• Practical experience with MLOps, CI/CD; familiarity with Terraform and dbt.

Principal AI & Data Scientist (Team Lead)

• As a Team Lead, you are responsible for the technical and disciplinary leadership of our Data Science team.
• You work hands-on in an cross-functional team and develop innovative data and AI products using machine learning methods.
• You are responsible for the entire lifecycle of machine learning models, from exploratory data analysis and feature engineering, to the selection and training of suitable algorithms, to the evaluation and validation of the models.
• You work on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and guide the deployment of ML models into production.
• As a technical expert, you establish best practices in the fields of data science, machine learning, and MLOps. In doing so, you proactively evaluate and integrate new methods and always stay up-to-date with the latest technology.
• You actively care for the personal and professional development of your team members.
• You work closely with business stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and implement concrete solutions for AI products.

Your Profile:

• You have several years of professional experience in the development and operationalization of data science and AI products.
• You possess outstanding knowledge of Python, especially for data analysis, data engineering, and ML model development.
• You have deep hands-on experience with the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and its relevant services (e.g. Vertex AI, BigQuery, Cloud Storage).
• You have sound knowledge and practical experience in MLOps, CI/CD, and ideally the use of tools like Terraform and dbt.
• You understand and master the entire lifecycle of machine learning models – from experimentation, training, deployment, monitoring to retraining strategies – and can implement them efficiently.
• You have the ability and experience to lead and foster a team, motivate employees, and support a collaborative working style.
• You are characterized by strong analytical skills, a structured approach to work, and a proactive attitude in solving complex problems.
• Excellent communication skills and fluent English complete your profile.
