Job Description

We’re looking for a System Game Designer to shape the heart of the Dying Light experience, crafting progression systems, pacing player growth, and balancing combat that feels rewarding from the first swing to the final fight.
You’ll design and fine‑tune the systems that define how players evolve, how enemies respond, and how every battle and upgrade stays fun, fair, and exciting.

Your Goal:

  • Support the Game Director in defining, designing, and maintaining the progression and balancing systems.
  • Design and contribute to the implementation of core gameplay systems that govern player growth, enemy evolution, and overall combat balance in alignment with the creative vision.
  • Establish and maintain best practices in balance data management and iteration, ensuring a scalable and data‑driven approach to system tuning.

Your Daily Tasks:

  • Collaborate closely with the Game Director and the Systems team to define, implement, and iterate on progression systems, covering experience gain, skill evolution, and difficulty scaling.
  • Design and balance numerical frameworks that drive gameplay, including enemy attributes, weapon performance, health, damage curves, and other interdependent parameters.
  • Maintain and contribute to the improvements of tools and data structures that ensure designers can efficiently manage game balance and progression content.
  • Partner with analytics teams to define telemetry needs, interpret player data, and translate insights into actionable balance adjustments.
  • Prototype and test new mechanics or systems aimed at deepening gameplay variety and player engagement over time.
  • Author and maintain detailed documentation explaining progression structures, formulas, and tuning methodologies.
  • Work closely with gameplay programmers to ensure system stability and scalability across updates.
  • Communicate design goals, metrics, and iteration results with other departments, ensuring coherence between game vision, live balance, and player experience.
Qualifications
  • Professional experience designing and balancing gameplay systems or progression features in at least one shipped title (preferably AAA or live‑operated).
  • Strong quantitative design skills with solid understanding of game balance, progression pacing, and player motivation systems.
  • Experience with data analytics and balance iteration tools (e.g., spreadsheets, telemetry dashboards, or scripting frameworks).
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities, able to clearly explain design logic and iteration rationale.
  • A structured, methodical approach to problem‑solving and iterative design.
  • Good command of English and an open, collaborative attitude toward cross‑discipline teamwork.
  • Passion for games and strong knowledge of contemporary game design trends, particularly progression systems, RPG elements, and player retention mechanics.
