Job summary

Cisco Systems, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer in the Foundations organization to architect and deliver scalable platform solutions that host Splunk's enterprise software across multi-cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure) and on-premises environments.

You will balance hands-on distributed systems development with technical leadership, establishing reliability standards and mentoring engineers to power the next evolution of the Splunk Platform.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems or SaaS platform infrastructure.
• Proficient in Go and/or C++ for production systems development, with scripting in Python or Bash.
• Experience building Kubernetes-native software (Custom Controllers, Operators) and deploying across AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Deep understanding of concurrency, data replication, idempotency, partial failure modes, and eventual consistency.
• Proven track record leading design reviews, writing RFCs/design docs, and mentoring teams.
• Excellent English communication, across cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Splunk Platform components across multi-cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
• Oversee and participate in distributed systems design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Apply best practices in distributed systems programming, debugging, performance tuning, and reliability engineering.
• Define and improve service health indicators, observability, SLOs, and recovery testing.
• Lead incident diagnosis, reduce operational risk, and mentor junior/mid engineers.
• Turn roadmap items into clear designs, APIs, milestones, and architectural decisions.
• Lead design reviews and influence technical direction for the team.
