Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a Bachelor's or Master's in CS or equivalent.
• Proficient in C++, able to learn Python/Java/Go quickly.
• Strong fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, OS, software design.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills with relevant tools.
• Experience with distributed systems (databases, file/storage).
• Experience building CI/CD systems and test automation, with AI coding assistants and agentic workflows.
• Experience with REST, gRPC, or similar paradigms.
• Experience with public cloud services such as AWS, GCP, Azure.

• Build robust, fault-tolerant and scalable distributed systems in a multi-threaded/multi-process environment.
• Define and perform search language layer optimizations and transformations.

Meet the Team
The Splunk Search Experience backend team sits at the core of the Splunk Platform, powering Cisco Data Fabric (https://investor.cisco.com/news/news-details/2025/Cisco-Data-Fabric-Transforms-Machine-Data-into-AI-Ready Intelligence/default.aspx) vision to transform machine data into AI-ready intelligence. We are seeking a Software Engineers to join a team of passionate distributed-systems engineers in building the next-generation, highly scalable search platform that fuels AI-driven workflows across our products.

Your Impact
In this role, you will be part of the team driving the evolution of Splunk’s flagship search engine capabilities, ensuring the platform meets the next wave of customer scale, performance, and reliability needs. You will have the opportunity to partner with product, and multi-functional teams to deliver high-performance, efficient, and resilient backend search services that delight customers.

• Design, develop, and launch features directly powering Splunk’s core search functionalities across our product eco-system.
• Build robust, fault-tolerant and scalable distributed systems in a multi-threaded/multi-process environment.
• Define and perform various search language layer optimizations/transformations.

• Diagnose and solve customer incidents and issues, reflect and identify gaps in product, observability and process, and design and deliver enhancements for prevention.

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• Coding proficiency in C++, and the ability to quickly learn new ones, especially Python, Java, or Go.
• Strong fundamentals in software engineering: data structures, algorithms, operating systems and software design.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills including the use of associated tools.
• Experience in working on distributed systems like databases, file systems and storage systems.
• Experience with developing CI/CD systems, test automation frameworks, and integrating AI coding assistants and agentic workflows into development and testing practices.
• Experience in REST, grpc, or similar communication paradigms.
• Experience working with public cloud services such as AWS, GCP, Azure.

Preferred Qualifications

• Passion for solving hard problems and exploring new technologies.
• Knowledge of deploying and managing services in Kubernetes clusters.
• Knowledge of query language and processing like SQL, SPL, etc.
