Job summary

Visa Hunt is seeking a Staff Engineer to combine hands-on development with strong system design, influencing strategy and mentoring senior engineers. You will collaborate with Product Managers and stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable software, shaping product direction and roadmaps.

You will design scalable backend services in Java/Spring Boot, build frontend components in React, and drive RESTful APIs, AWS deployment, and platform reliability.

Qualifications

• 8-10+ years of professional software engineering with Java and Spring Boot.
• Strong hands-on experience with React and modern JS/TS.
• Proficiency in AWS services and cloud architecture.
• Solid understanding of microservices and distributed systems.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and Hibernate.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes, and Terraform/CloudFormation.
• Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
• Proven experience leading technical initiatives across teams.
• Mentoring senior engineers and growing capability.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build and enhance frontend components using React, ensuring a seamless and performant user experience.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality, maintainable software solutions.
• Architect and implement RESTful APIs and integrations between backend and frontend systems.
• Leverage AWS services for deployment, monitoring, and scalability.
• Ensure performance, security, and reliability across the stack and participate in architectural reviews.
• Lead the design of complex, cross-functional systems and maintain architectural consistency.
• Partner with Engineering Managers and Product Leadership to shape long-term strategy.
• Identify and resolve system-wide technical risks and bottlenecks.
• Drive engineering best practices, coding standards, and software quality initiatives.
• Lead technical design reviews and provide guidance for high-impact decisions.
• Influence technology selection and modernization initiatives.
• Balance short-term delivery with long-term platform sustainability.
• Nice to have: frontend performance optimization and state management; non-relational databases; messaging systems; monitoring tools; roadmap & modernization experience; Staff/Principal ladder experience; open-source contributions.
