Job summary

Cisco Systems, Inc. in Kraków is seeking a Software Engineer to contribute to backend services using Python and Go, with opportunities to touch React-based UI components. The role emphasizes reliability, scalability, and collaboration with product management and UX teams.

You will work in a backend‑heavy team, with a frontend complement, and grow your skills through mentorship and hands-on project delivery in an Agile environment. This is a full-time, on-site position in Kraków.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Python and Go with willingness to grow in both.
• Hands-on experience with React or another frontend framework is a plus.
• Familiar with automated tests (unit/functional/integration).

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and deliver long‑term software in line with requirements and architecture.
• Maintain existing tech stack, debug and fix issues.
• Collaborate with product management, architects, UX, and team to build features and reusable components.
• Build backend services in Python and Go; contribute to React-based interfaces when appropriate.
• Learn codebase, apply sound judgment to improvements, and seek guidance when needed.
• Follow Agile lifecycle with testing, observability, and reliability as priorities.

Our goal in the App Deployment Team is to remove the barriers between data and action, and provide people with access to informative, predictive, relevant, and actionable data via the Splunk platform. This team focuses on applications management, which is integral in the adoption and successful use of Splunk’s platform.

Your impact

We are looking for a promising Software Engineer to contribute to the design, implementation, and delivery of the Splunk Cloud application management experiences. This is a backend-focused role on a team that values engineers who are eager to contribute to front-end experiences as well. You will develop reliable services primarily in Python and Go, with opportunities to make hands‑on contributions to React‑based interfaces and reusable UI components. The core of the role is backend engineering; front‑end experience with React is a valuable complement, not a full‑stack requirement. You are motivated to learn, collaborate, and build a strong foundation in software delivery while working with product management, user experience, documentation, and engineering teams.

What you’ll do

• Participate in the design, implementation, and delivery of long‑term‑impact software in accordance with given requirements and existing system architecture.
• Maintain existing technology stack and debug and fix issues
• Work closely with product management, architects, user experience, and the team to build exciting features, reusable components, and products.
• Build, analyze, and optimize backend services primarily in Python and Go, pursuing simplicity, efficiency, reliability, and performance.
• Contribute to React‑based user interfaces and reusable front‑end components when opportunities align with your interests and expertise.
• Build your understanding of existing code and use sound judgment to make improvements, seeking guidance when needed.
• Follow the software development lifecycle in an Agile methodology and contribute to a strong engineering culture through testing, observability, and operational excellence.

Minimum qualifications

• Strong motivation to learn, improve technical skills, and grow as a software engineer.
• Knowledge of Python and/or Go, or another modern programming language, plus eagerness to grow in Python and Go as needed. Most of our code base is written in Python.
• Hands‑on experience with React or another modern front‑end framework is beneficial. We value junior engineers who are eager to learn and contribute to front‑end technology while working in a backend‑heavy team.
• Understanding of, or willingness to learn, different levels of automated tests, such as unit tests, functional tests, and integration tests.
• Problem‑solving, collaboration, and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Nice‑to‑have Qualifications

• Experience with either AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Familiarity with containerization, such as Docker, is a plus.
• Understanding of RESTful APIs and interest in API design choices.
