Google is seeking a software engineer to advance Android platform features across Launcher and related areas. You will design and deliver new UI and performance improvements for the Android Overview experience, with a focus on multi-display support and responsiveness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
• 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• Experience developing accessible technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and launch new features for the Android Overview experience, such as enhanced drag and drop, pagination, and multi-display support.
• Analyze and improve the performance, responsiveness, and memory footprint of Overview features within Launcher.
• Contribute to the ongoing architectural modernization of Launcher, including adopting Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) and integrating Jetpack Compose for User Interface (UI) development.
• Collaborate with UX/UI designers, product managers, and engineers across Launcher and Android Platform to define and build multitasking solutions.
• Develop and improve testing infrastructure and practices to ensure the stability and quality of Overview features, including addressing test flakiness.
