Job summary

Bowen Health seeks a Skills Technician to assist families, advocating, teaching, demonstrating, monitoring, and modeling homemaking skills to promote self-sufficiency. Services may be provided at Bowen Health locations, in the community, or in patients' homes.

Responsibilities include updating intake information, coordinating homemaker services, instructing patients in daily living activities, transporting patients to appointments, documenting work, and collaborating with Case Managers to plan

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate’s Degree or sixty undergraduate credit hours or High School Diploma with four years of relevant experience.
  • Experience: Prefer two years in a mental health setting.
  • Certifications: CPI—Certification after hire and BLS/First Aid after hire and kept current.

Responsibilities

  • Review and update intake information for accuracy.
  • Coordinate homemaker services with Case Manager.
  • Instruct patients in daily living activities and homemaker skills.
  • Advocate, teach, demonstrate, monitor, and model housekeeping skills.
  • Transport patients to appointments and perform basic vehicle maintenance.
  • Complete clinical documentation accurately and submit timely.

Job description

The Skills Technician aids and supports parents who are unable to appropriately fulfill parenting and homemaking functions. The Technician assists families through advocating, teaching, demonstrating, monitoring, and/or role modeling new, appropriate skills towards self-sufficiency. This role may be responsible for transporting patients for appointments. Additionally, this role may also provide case management and skill building services to the assigned caseload. These services may be provided at a Bowen Health location, in the community, and in patients’ homes. A caseload may consist of child/adolescent or adult population depending on the location and the need.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Below are the primary duties and essential functions of an employee in this position. While not all tasks may be performed by every employee in this role, all employees are expected to perform related tasks as needed. These essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Review and updatepatientintake information (demographics) for accuracy.
  • Coordinate homemaker services with Case Manager asdeterminedby care coordination plan.
  • Instructpatients inappropriate homemakerservices including cleanliness of home, personal hygiene,budgetingand other activities of daily living.
  • Advocate, teach,demonstrate, monitor, and modelappropriate housekeepingskills.
  • Advise familiesin privatehomein dealing with problems such as cleanliness, and household utilities.
  • Participates in evaluatingthe needsof individualsserved, andconfers with Case Manager to plan for continuingadditionalservices.
  • Transport patients to and from appointments in surrounding counties while abiding by speed limits and road signs.
  • Perform simple vehicle maintenance, such as fueling gastank, cleaning exterior & interior, taking vehicle for oil changes.
  • Ensurepatients follow bus procedures when traveling with them on a bus including being safely seated and using seat belts.
  • Build natural support systems and promote greaterpatientindependence
  • Assistpatients to learn and develop new skills to improve functioning and independence
  • Ensurepatients are linked with otherneeded healthcare providers
  • Ensurepatients are addressing the goals that are important to them and/or their referral source
  • Participate in medical appointments with the organization’s medical staff
  • Ensurepatients are making progress and are discharged atan appropriate amountof time
  • Transportpatients as needed andappropriate totheir care
  • Complete all clinical documentationaccurately, using exact startandstop times, andsubmittingtimely.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occupational Exposure Risk Classification: The normal work routine involvesminimalexposure to blood, bodyfluidsor tissues.
  • The normal work routine has aminimalergonomic risk for repetitive motion impairment.
  • The position may require aminimalamount of physical exertion (bending, lifting, twisting) in the work area.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education:Associate’sDegreeorsixty (60)undergraduate credit hours, orHigh School Diploma or GED accepted with a minimum offour (4)years of prior experience.
  • Experience:Prefer two (2) years in a mental health setting.
  • Certificate or Professional License:
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) -Certification must be obtained afterhireand prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must bemaintainedand kept current through employment.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Aid -Certification must be obtained afterhireand prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must bemaintainedand kept current through employment.
  • Valid driver’s license and activeautoinsurancecoverage.
  • Satisfactory results from criminal and driving record background checks
  • Must be aminimum21years of age.
  • Must be aminimum25 years of age tooperatea Bowen vehicle.
