Job summary

Smartling is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to work remotely and build highly scalable services for our translation platform. You will own features end to end, across Java, Node, and React, delivering code via AI agents and ensuring quality through automated tests.

Qualifications

• Senior engineering experience with full-stack capabilities.
• Proficient in at least one backend language (Java, Kotlin or Node).
• Strong knowledge of software architecture including SOA.
• Experience with events, message buses and asynchronous processing.
• Relational database design, indexing and performance basics.
• CS fundamentals: algorithms, data structures, runtime basics.
• Hands-on with AI coding agents and ability to review results.
• Ability to design, test and explain changes, including agent-produced code.
• Broad knowledge across the stack and clear English communication.
• BS+ degree in CS or equivalent; remote-work readiness.

Responsibilities

• Own features end to end, from clarifying the problem to releasing in production.
• Work across repositories and technologies (Java, Node, React) delivering code via AI agents.
• Ensure quality of all shipped work, including AI-generated code.
• Collaborate with product managers and client-facing colleagues to clarify scope.
• Add automated tests and pass them through the delivery pipeline.
• Focus on value delivered to clients and the company, not lines or tickets.
