Job summary

SpotOn Poland is seeking a senior backend engineer to own critical systems in production. You’ll lead development in Golang, with PHP as a plus, and apply AI tools to craft robust software for high-traffic environments.

The role requires collaboration in Kraków or Gdańsk offices 2–3 times per week, with AWS/Terraform/Kubernetes experience and a focus on scalable, reliable architecture.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of software development in production, high-traffic systems.
• Backend focus with Golang and ideally PHP.
• Experience integrating AI into workflows and debugging complex systems.
• Strong data structures, algorithms, and scalable design.
• Excellent English, capable of in-person collaboration in Kraków/Gdańsk.

Responsibilities

On a daily basis you will

• Take extreme ownership: You don’t just close tickets; you own the outcome. If a feature breaks or a customer is stuck, you’re the one who sees the fix through, regardless of where the problem sits in the stack.
• Navigate real complexity: We aren’t doing simple CRUD work. You will be untangling massive systems and solving high-stakes puzzles that require creative thinking and the grit to push through frustration.
• Be a "whatever it takes" engineer: You are flexible. If the front end lead is out or an infra fire starts, you’re ready to jump in, learn what you don't know, and clear the path for the team.
• Treat AI as a teammate: We use AI tools daily to move faster. You’ll be expected to leverage these tools to solve "impossible" problems and keep our quality bar high.
• Drive the team forward: You’ll provide technical leadership, ensuring we’re making smart decisions and addressing tech debt before it becomes a roadblock.

What skill are we searching for?

• Real-world experience: You’ve spent at least 5 to 7 years building software that survives high-traffic, production environments.
• Backend mastery: You are highly proficient in Golang and ideally also PHP.
• AI fluency: You have already integrated AI into your workflow and know how to use it to write better code and debug complex systems.
• Solid fundamentals: You have a deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns that allow you to build for scale.
• Strong communication: You have a solid command of English (min. B2) and are ready to collaborate in person at our Kraków or Gdańsk offices 2-3 times a week.

• The "Figure it Out" gene: You actually enjoy the challenge of a problem that doesn’t have a clear answer on the first page of a search result.
• Full-stack flexibility: You aren’t afraid of React or JavaScript if that’s what’s needed to get a project across the finish line.
• Cloud and Infra comfort: You’ve spent enough time with AWS, Terraform, or Kubernetes to understand how your code lives in the wild.
• Payment processing prowess: You have experience navigating the complex world of fintech—think payment gateways, ledger systems, transaction routing, or PCI compliance. You understand what it takes to make moving money bulletproof and secure.
• A mentoring mindset: you naturally raise the bar for those around you through thoughtful code reviews and shared knowledge.
